Yes sometimes I don't have him at number 3 because I think Prime George Foreman would smoke him and I also think Prime Lennox Lewis and Sunny Liston would smoke him.

And also he didn't do good against really big guys he struggled really hard against Tim Witherspoon and Jerry Cooney
No body smokes Holmes at his peak. Foreman never went near Larry when they could have fought.

Larry had a faster jab than Liston and Lennox. He didn’t quit or get knocked out at his peak.
True. Foreman got beat by Jimmy Young so imagine what Holmes would do. Also true that Liston and Lewis BOTH got knocked out at their peaks [though Liston was NOT at peak when Cassius Clay/Ali beat him/knocked him out].

And then there's Renaldo Snipes flooring Larry Holmes in the 7th round and Holmes getting up and staggering into the turnbuckle with his face

This has turned into a Larry Holmes lovefest.

I grudgingly give the man his due, although being floored by the "great" Renaldo Snipes is nothing to write home about.

In the end, he might sneak into the top 10 for me if I'm feeling generous that day.

Ali, Louis, Tyson, Foreman, Marciano, Lewis, Frazier, Holyfield, hell... even Klitschko could sneak in there. I rate them ALL higher.

But I will say one thing...

If a list for biggest whining bitch in boxing ever comes out... Holmes is head and shoulders above every heavyweight in history.

Peak Holyfield took an old Holmes the distance. Imagine what a peak Holmes would have done to Evander.

Rocky only made 6 defences of his title. His record is elevated to a mythical status when in reality he should not be in anyone top ten list. The Rock was knocked down a number of times by lesser boxers.

boxing triangle theories aren't the best indication of how fights might have gone. big george destroyed ken norton who many thought beat larry

It was a fantastic contest and very close but Holmes won.

It was a very sad day for Ken Norton as he and millions of other people thought he won the third fight with Muhammad Ali. Ken Norton always just a hair shy of being the heavyweight champion of the world. I know that he attained it on paper. That was a very sad day many people felt Ken Norton won by a majority decision by one point. It was too close to call to be honest
