Mine's a simple laceup that costed me about 10 bucks for a pair and it fits pretty well. I prefer to spar without headgear but in away using it gets you used to it ha ha. I don't know what your trainers are telling you but you don't need a headgear like a pillow it doesn't take much off a hard shot and in fact it obstructs your vision. You can't see out of the corners of your eye, and the ones with chin protectors can make it little harder to put your chin down.
As for gloves it's worth going a little in your pocket for. What you need is a boxing glove that allows you to make a fist in it. I see a lot of gloves these days that keep you from making a fist and in away that contributes to broken hands. If you can find some look for vintage boxing gloves, the kind with cotten or hair padding is more flexible for your hands over the foam padding of today.
I know the internet means you don't have to leave your house to buy things but you're really not getting soming that fits you if you go online. If you can go to a store and try on the gloves, or the headgear than you can figure out which suits you best.
