I like Ali but ive always thought that a rematch would of been bad news for him.

Foreman never wanted a rematch...He has stated that before...Maybe now that he older he wishes he did but at the time....That loss did a lot to hurt georges confidence...Foreman was youn g and thought he was invincible...When you are that age and that strong and you give a guy everything you have while the whole time he talks to you telling "Thats all you got"!!!!.....Your already beat before the rematch.....Foreman needed time to deal with that loss...By time he was over it mentaly Ali was long retired

Foreman lost because he abandoned any defence he showed in previous and post fights. He had no defence and he got caught. If he would have shown more defence against ali, he would have won easily.
Foreman wanted a rematch.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"

well lets take this into account foreman was never same after ali loss as you could see when he was floored twice by ron lyle and almost koed plus getting outboxed by jimmy young ali had few more great fights in him like fight with fraizer 3 and earnie shavers if ali would of fought foreman again i think foreman would of been beaten mentally and ali would of outboxed big george over 12 rounds
Couple people hit it on the head imo, Daxx and Mick, CC to both. Foreman, firstly, was impacted greatly by that loss and probably had alot of baggage for a good while after that. But secondly, someone suggested that Foreman would be more mature or collected somehow for the rematch, and I just don't see where he ever showed this in his first career. George really never developed a calm boxing style until his comeback many years later. I don't see the performance he put on after losing to Ali and before retiring for the first time that would suggest otherwise. His next fight was the absolute back and forth war with Ron Lyle, hardly showed any improvement in that fight if you ask me... Then after that he fought the ghost of Joe Frazier AFTER the thrilla in manilla and Frazier was able to actually do better than he did the first time out.... somehow... And then in his next signifigant fight he lost to Jimmy Young, getting dropped in the 12th. Though Ali did fade quickly after the Foreman fight, had they fought within a year or so after(say even if ALi fought him instead of Frazier a third time), I could only see him repeating the win, if not more convincingly winning early rounds..
