Can any one tell me why Ali and Foreman never fought a rematch?

And if they would have fought again who do you think would've won. I'm talking about a rematch in the U.S without a crazy crowd baying for Georges blood and a lunatic dictator not letting you leave the country after a postponement?


Any thoughts people?

It would have been one of the best fights of all time IMO....Ali had only 1 more shining moment in beating Frazier again....after that it was obvious decline....

Foreman would have been harder to beat next time out. Younger, stronger and a little more experience from tasting defeat....

I predict no winner though!

Ther was 3 Ali v FRaizer 3 Ali v Norton 2 Foreman v Fraizers why only 1 Ali v Foreman surely the world would have demanded it

The Rumble in the Jungle must have taken so much more out of Ali .

Sounds like an odd statement but he had to take some huge blows to the body whereas i think George went down as much from exhaustion as much the famous right.

George had a massive breakdown after that fight .

External factors are not relevant to a pro...Ali won that fight fair and square and would have done so in the states. A rematch is not so cut and dry.

Imagine a mature Foreman mind inside the young Foreman body!!!! Now that would beat Ali right there and then in the first fight!!!! Perhaps!!

I agree but going to Zaire as a nieve 22 yoer old must be quite an intimidating experience an having all the country hating you an trying to pull out of the fight only for the President to not allow your plane to leave must have had some impact

Of course it had an impact. But once in that ring and being a pro, those influences should not be at the front of your mind..

I saw an interview where BIG George said that after that fight he secluded himself and wated to be left alone he didn't want to know anything he just wen't into his own world, I also remember him saying he would wake up in the middle of the night sweating during that time off.....
I mean BIG George was off for over a year after that fight.
If there would have been a re-match lets say 5-6 months later I think Ali would have finished him off sooner the 2nd time around as BIG George would still have flashbacks of their 1st meeting.

But two years later he came back an kicked JFs ass a second time. I may be looking too much in to this but if George can do that to Kenny norton an Jf twice why not Ali. Ali was the master of sports psychology and he really got in to Georges head, do you think it would have different in America?

An how come there was never a mention of a rematch?
