But have you seen the fight? No, and me neither. We should reserve a little judgement.

I'd hate to just jump right in but I gotta say I don't need to see the fight cause I've seen all of his fights since he moved to Heavy. and they ain't been good.

Yeah but I've read like 5 articles on the fight now, and from the sounds of Batchelder was the one staying on the outside, and he had Toney hurt bad in the 7th with a jab. I know I should reserve judgement, but if Roach is telling him to retire, he gives himself a D plus and people say he was outboxed by Danny Batchelder, I mean...yeah. And that's from people I put a lot of stock in. If Toney of all people said he did horrible, his trainer said he did horrible and every writer out there said he did horrible, well then I think it's safe to make some judgements.

I would like to copy and paste a comment i made in other thread.

As much as i like Toney this is no suprise really because Toney has a habit of getting into close decision with lower class opponents Terry McGroom Dave Tiberi in which Toney was very lucky to get the decision against Tiberi he was so disgusted with the decision that Tiberi retired so jury is still out on Toney because us Toney fans know that Toney goes through his bad patches of getting into close fights with lesser boxers.

Im happy he got his 70th win. That is an accomplishment for any boxer. Now is the perfect time for him to retire

yeah Im sure he's never even suggested as much before... The man is 38 years old, and he's James Toney. he's going to do whatever he wants to and tell himself he's just as good as he ever was no matter what anyone says. Not that anyone should have to tell him to lose those man breasts.

I havent given myself a chance to read any of the debate so far so i appologise if my comments a little sideways but IMO, Toney is nowhere near the level of a fighter he was when he first landed at heavyweight and it is a concern of mine now... Much like with Holyfields fights... wether or not Toney embarrases himself in the ring.

Altough with that being said, Toney has drifted off into oblivion before and clocked up a whole heap of fights (hence the 70+ wins) proving that Toney really is an old skool fighter (i mean its not like he'strying to protect that '0' or anything).

What im saying is, for me, Toney is allowed to flirt with lower-level opposition just for the sake of fighting, enjoying his sport and getting paid. For me, that does just as much for his legacy as anything else.

A man needs to know his limitations though. Thats all.

How many all time greats (heavy or other) went out on top without an accusations of them dodging people by retiring? The are no happy endings in boxing.

    , for the footage Amat

Its inconclusive to me really. Toney had way too much flab bulging over his shorts (which is nothing new) but he looked in reasonable shape and he seemed to be boxing okay.

I will watch this clip a few times more
