Sharla i have nowhere near the inner strength or patience u do...I found myself in a similar situation as you last nite. This big guy called james with a lil less expieience than me wanted me on the outside so i said thats fine an i slipped and parried a while. But then he got frustrated and he elbowed me....Now if it was u u probably would have taken it in ur stride and got on with it....but no...how do i react...BANG bodyshot BANG down goes James![]()

Thats alright Chris - I have to confess sometimes I write something and then have to go back and edit it several times because it sounded bitchier than intendedOriginally Posted by Chris N.
I forgive ya!
Thanks Von but I actually don't rate myself as a dancer. There are 4 'kids' in my family - me, my younger sister and my two older bros. ME and my bros got the non creative, athletic and competitive genes and my younger sister hogged all the creativity genes - she's a belly dancer and no I won't post any vids of her because she's permanently an innocent 5 year old as far as I'm concernedOriginally Posted by Von Milash
Aww thanks Scrap CCOriginally Posted by Scrap
Haven't done enough sparring since I first started this thread to know how much progress she's making there but doing pad work she's improving throwing punches moving backwards which she finds harder than moving forwards - so I guess that's a good sign.Originally Posted by Chris N.
As for what I'm working on with sparring the first thing is just getting back into it properly after coming back from injury. That's going OK.
Apart from that I found out last night my coaches are going to try to get me a match to fight in June (Yay!) so I'll be working on visualizing (not easy being so damn uncreative) myself in front of a crowd etc so I'm better able to perform in that environment. In a lot of my competitive bouts I think I haven't been able to demonstrate everything I can do because of nerves etc.
I'll also try to finally have a more effective guard. Strange how little things make other things click - a more experienced guy was nice enough to spar with me the other week and told me I drop my right hand when I jab. I find it easier to hold a guard now if I keep that right up because I can make the transition from punching to holding my guard a lot smoother.

Did he elbow you deliberately? That's really dangerous - as far as I'm aware elbow gloves haven't been invented yet (unless Scrap and Von just haven't released it yetOriginally Posted by hitmandonny
)
I'm not sure I wouldn't loose it at someone deliberately elbowing me!

I don't blame you either. It's not easy for you to convey tone when you're typing something.Originally Posted by Sharla

Good luck on your upcoming fight. I'll see about posting some good ideas when it comes to visualizing and training. I have some good ideas about speed bag work that'll add a whole new dimension to the way we can fight.

Speed bag work sounds interesting - I have been making that a regular part of my routine just to try to get things flowing a bit more.
As for visualizing I think I'm a lost cause! For me the difficult part is bringing what I have in the gym into a fight and I think the answer is to compete as often as possible and develop some techniques to put myself in the right relaxed mode and the close to the fight a relaxed but pumped mental state. I think I have always put too much mental energy into worrying about what the fight outcome will be instead of what I'm actually going to be doing in there.
Don't have a set date or opponent yet so I might be getting excited a little prematurely but will be posting a vid of it so everyone can pay me out. I also promised glut man (AKA Von) some skanky ring girl flesh on vid so if it's too embarrassing I'll just edit out the fight part and leave the minute breaks![]()

lol glut man!? did you up with that on your own?
Anyways don't let the anticipation of that fight turn you into a ball of nerves, besides it sounds like you're excited about it.
I'll try to have a post something on the speed bag tomorrow, I already have a couple pages on it and I still have more that I want to cover.![]()
I'll post some ideas on visualization tomorrow when I have some spare time. Why don't you check out the Search feature, type in "visualize" or "imagin" with "Andre" as the username that you're looking up. You'll find some interesting ideas there.![]()

Actually Von came up with that himself so if you are saying it's weak it's not me you're paying out!Originally Posted by Chris N.
As for the visualization stuff i'm really thinking competition and nerves management specific stuff so don't write too much general stuff just for me (assuming I'm that special) but I'd be interested to see what you come up with.

Dude,an elbow in sparring isnt cool, not one iotaOriginally Posted by hitmandonny
What if the guyy had busted your nose right out of an upcoming fight?
See i gotta a lil scar tissue on my left temple and my first instinct WAS that he bust it open. But then i went to the body. I MEANT to hurt him, I Meant to lay him out in sparring. Makes me jus as bad as he is.

I think you're a little hard on yourself - someone cuts open my face with an illegal elbow, especially someone bigger because they're frustrated and not feeling threatened themselves.Originally Posted by hitmandonny
I think you're being nice going to the body where (unless I'm wrong?) there's less chance of inflicting permanent damage.
What was your other option in that kind of close range against someone bigger? You can't wrestle a bigger person who is already on top of you unless you know some good throws and they'd be hard with sparring gloves on.
Maybe you could have said something but if he's elbowing you would that mean he might not be in the frame of mind to hear you?
