I see several runners and cyclists out and about when I'm doing my roadwork. I never get any strange looks and on the flip-side of it sometimes I have complete strangers smile and wave at me. I guess it might sound a little crazy to you but why don't you try to put it out of your mind and take on sense of humor about it. If someone gives you a dirty look you mimic them, maybe stick out your tongue. If they have a spare tire you can put your hands in front of your belly gesturing like you have a big belly. Of course you're still going to see some idiots that are passing by, but as long as you're not focusing on then it's not going to ruin your day. A sense of humor goes a long way too. So when some idiot gives you some S*** you can ignore them, and just make fun of them in your mind. Now if they go out of their way to cross you then they have another thing coming.
Actually the latter half of the day,I went for self humour,to distract myself from the itch between my shoulders were the meat hook was lodged,I started flexing when I went out
