Swimming's been pretty good to me. I have to get up a lot earlier to swin then to run as have to get to the pool and back but it's not easy to injure yourself in a pool and once you know how to breathe you can do a reasonable session without needing to be super fit. I see people of all ages and fitness levels at the pool.
I like to alternate it with either time cycling on a wind trainer (boring) or a bit of a jog on other mornings. I am limited to running around an oval at the moment because I won't risk any other surfaces hurting my knee.
I like to do something in the mornings but will occaisionally opt to sleep in if 'm a bit sleep deprived as there doesn't seem to be any other way to catch up on sleep than to sleep.I need to be pretty organized to manage a week with training every morning since it gets a bit difficult time wise with boxing at night.
