I'll be ok dont worry, they know what they are talking about....boxers rarely get brain damage, they get more of that in american football.

Cuteboots - sorry to come over as all callous. The thing is that it's a tough sport and there simply is no money to be creating support groups etc. Big money only comes to the tiny percentage at the very top.Originally Posted by cuteboots
Also, it is a sport at the end of the day. There are more injuries and deaths in professional rugby but there are no support groups - I can't really see that there would be any in amateur boxing. 'Support groups' for other halves in sports sounds like PC bullshit anyway(IMO)
Sorry - just my opinion, no offence and all, but you did post on a public forum for opinions and advice
If God wanted us to be vegetarians, why are animals made of meat ?
If hes with a promoter who regards him as good then he will be built up against people who just want to survive or are lighter or older and such like, he'll be fed no hopers basicly to build his own level up.
As long as he trains to the best of his ability and he wants to go places hell be fine
I wouldnt stess about it much. Like some others have said there are other sports with higher mortality and brain damage rates than boxing. Boxing is the only sport that has "that" image about. As long as he trains well and has a promoter that will look out for him he will be fine. The biggest thing is for him to keep up with his training so he will be in shape at all times. Good luck.

Thanks all...
JonesJrMayweather: He's 27 and he weighs 225 pounds right now, but he wants to lose some of it because he doesn't want to be in the heavyweight category.
TheMasterpiece: I'd rather not say who he is just cause I'm kind of shy about giving out private information like that.
ross: He was saying something about his first fights being easier like you were talking about.
X: I didn't mean something that needs a lot of money to run, just some online chatroom or forum or something like that where I could talk with other SOs.
Pantera: hmmmm maybe not :P I can't imagine doing this myself...
As long as a boxer is in good shape, his body is able to absorb punishment much better than of he is not in 100% shape. So basially as long as he gets in the ring at his best, you shouldnt worry about anything...............also, just so you know my girlfriend and mother have never gone to my fights cause they dont want to see me get hit even if i win, I play them the tape afterwards. You could always do that
Psalm 144: Blessed be the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle
You have a better chance of winning the lottery then your boyfriend getting any immediately noticeable brain damage. With a few exceptions, most boxers will only sustain a very subtle from of brain damage after years of fighting.
dont worry about injuries from boxing most people get seriuosly injured or die from car accidents--ken norton had many rough ring battles--but got permenitly injured from a car accident
I cool clicked you for having an interest and concern in your boyfreinds boxing, my girlfreind wouldnt have given a sh*t while I was boxing
Hes bound to know the basics but when you go to his fights, scream "Chin down, hands high and be first with the jab."
The odds of your boyfriend making a decent living in Boxing are as slim as making it into the NBA.
The odds of your boyfriend sustaining serious brain injuries through boxing are the same as sustaining them through any natural cause (falling down, car accidents, brain cancer, etc)
Anything else?
damn he's going to have to damn near starve himself to make it all the way down to cruiserweight and it'll be sick to try to go to LW....damn! I hope he's really out of shape and the 225 is just from years of inactivity...because if he's in half way decent shape...that's going to be too hard on his body..to lose 30 to 35 pounds...shit the ealier HW's holyfield, tyson, and the other ones were beast at only 212-220...he should stay HW...
"Sixty forty I kicks yo' ass, Sixty forty I tears yo' ass up" - Roy Jones
I don't think he means to make his living off of this, so that's not an issue...
He does have some weight from letting himself go and he said it won't be too easy, but he's still really strong (he can pick me up with one arm lol)
Boxing requires a different kind of strength. You can be able to lift heaps easily but punch like shit. It all comes with practice and technique. Good luck to your bf and dont worry as long as his corner looks after him then he will be fineOriginally Posted by cuteboots
