a guy people don't really think about as being a powerful puncher is Evander Holyfield. Evander can crack mates.. ask anyone who's fought him, they will tell you !

i would say foreman. i remember when foreman fought joe frazier and frazier has this bobbing head movement so foreman just punched him on the top of the head and down goes frazier

I think it was Shavers. He knocked people out and no TKO's

I disagree they both had great techique for power, but Tyson was the bigger, stronger, faster man. Ali never got hit by Tyson. I think Lewis, Tua probably hit harder than Tyson.

a guy people don't really think about as being a powerful puncher is Evander Holyfield. Evander can crack mates.. ask anyone who's fought him, they will tell you !
He had decent power kind of power that makes you respect him but he never really had true hw punching power.

I'm sure Riddick Bowe, Michael Moorer, Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Buster Douglas, Ray Mercer etc would all disagree

Im not saying Holyfield didn't have power but out of 10 i would rate it 6 or 7 out of 10 Holyfield used to wear you down with his punches.

No I'm thinking of Corey 'T-Rex' Sanders, the big fat black guy who KO'd Oleg Maskaev.

I don't ever remember 'T-Rex' sparring with Wladimir, but I could be wrong.

I'm still saying Foreman, he was a BRUTAL puncher and the 68 KO's help him out

We seem to have this thread at least once a month.

    Was he the hardest puncher?
If you lined up all the great heavyweights in front of a heavy bag, had them throw their hardest punch, and measured the impact.... then no, I don't think Tyson would be the "hardest" puncher. I think fighters like Shavers and Foreman would measure higher.

Now, in an actual fight in the ring, punching is about more than just power, it's about speed, accuracy, and sharpness, as well as pure power. When you factor in all those things, then Tyson in his prime may have been the most dangerous or devestating puncher in the ring, although Foreman would have a legit argument.

Sugar Ray is likely the best ever boxer, but he was not a heavyweight.

Hardest hitting heavyweight champion - George Foreman.
