Many people know, and even question whether joe could take on a james toney at 168 prime for prime..

And toney was one of the very very best in the division and at middleweight

And while not many will outright say Joey c beats toney,

Everyone hear either suspects or knows that toney wont have a mark on the legacy that calzaghe probably will

Its a funny old game..

Thats why I said it depends on the version of Toney that shows up....

James Toney is either one of the best fighters to ever step in the ring or one of the biggest disgraces...It all depends on him...The guy lost to fellows way below his caliber.....It is almost like Toney sometimes just does not care....He is a funny guy that Toney is.....

BTW when I speak of James Toney I speak of the REAL James Toney not the Heavyweight impersonator....But the Toney from 160-CW
Oh yes none other Daxx my friend

James toney for the real boxing fans/historians/ lovers will always be the undefeated p4p great that was the utterly skillful flamboyant puncher/slickster at 160 and 168

Some count the end of his reign as his first loss to jones, Fair play to Roy jones..But he never finished james, it was a shutout but toney went on to get robbed against griffin in both fights imo especialy number one..

But on the other hand at a certain point in james' career you have to sometimes think.. Just wouldnt have been james toney had he not carried on in the exact way in which he did

He still had many entertaining bouts that many people never payed any attention to, and late in his career i still think it was amazing the way he made it all the way back and beat jirov in such an entertaining fight to become cruiserweight champion which i rate just as highly as roy's win over john ruiz

and his record even to this day is nice to look at, to have had so many fights and so very few losses even alot of those losses arent quite what i would call legit

He just gives the aura out that he is a throw back of old time fighters , a large record, unpadded a trash talking talk the talk walk the walk kinda guy all the way upto recent years and only recently has he began to truely slip..
Well put...Toney also would have done much better in the Jones fight had he just fought like Toney instead of spending half the time trying to out do Jones EG- When he insisted of making a fool of himself doing to fighting cock impression because Jones did

What goes through his mind LOL...

In truth when you look at the Jones HW win do you think Roy would have even stepped in with Guys like Peter? Yes James lost but hell he was there in it against a much younger much bigger Peter....Something you have to respect.....

Other then Jones Toney has never been soundly beaten....or out classed..I do hope he stays away now for his own good...

Then again this is James Toney we are talking about
There are many words for james toney

One of them is definately PROUD

Lol

He has one of the most amazing chins.. I think the most amazing and ironic thing i feel about this era of boxing is this..

Of the entire era maybe the last twenty years you can say that there are two people who stand out as utter defensive greats.. Bernard Hopkins, and an in shape James Toney
And ironicly both have some of the best chins ive ever seen in boxing
