James toney for the real boxing fans/historians/ lovers will always be the undefeated p4p great that was the utterly skillful flamboyant puncher/slickster at 160 and 168
Some count the end of his reign as his first loss to jones, Fair play to Roy jones..But he never finished james, it was a shutout but toney went on to get robbed against griffin in both fights imo especialy number one..
But on the other hand at a certain point in james' career you have to sometimes think.. Just wouldnt have been james toney had he not carried on in the exact way in which he did
He still had many entertaining bouts that many people never payed any attention to, and late in his career i still think it was amazing the way he made it all the way back and beat jirov in such an entertaining fight to become cruiserweight champion which i rate just as highly as roy's win over john ruiz
and his record even to this day is nice to look at, to have had so many fights and so very few losses even alot of those losses arent quite what i would call legit
He just gives the aura out that he is a throw back of old time fighters , a large record, unpadded a trash talking talk the talk walk the walk kinda guy all the way upto recent years and only recently has he began to truely slip..

Well put...Toney also would have done much better in the Jones fight had he just fought like Toney instead of spending half the time trying to out do Jones EG- When he insisted of making a fool of himself doing to fighting cock impression because Jones didOriginally Posted by The Magic Man
What goes through his mind LOL...
In truth when you look at the Jones HW win do you think Roy would have even stepped in with Guys like Peter? Yes James lost but hell he was there in it against a much younger much bigger Peter....Something you have to respect.....
Other then Jones Toney has never been soundly beaten....or out classed..I do hope he stays away now for his own good...
Then again this is James Toney we are talking about![]()

Why is it such a crime to think Joe could beat them i mean it is not that out of the question. Like another example is when i say Holmes could beat Ali and every one gets all upset. Why are people so protective of boxers and think that they are unbeatable every boxer can be defeated so i do not think it is that big of a deal to think Joe can beat Roy and Tony. I mean who did they beat at the weight made them so much more special. Joe has been beating everyone in his divsion for ten years and that is all a fighter could do Bernard went down in weight and Roy went up in weight so that why the fights never happened so that all i have to say i am going with Joe to defeat both and thats all i can say.
There are many words for james toneyOriginally Posted by DaxxKahn

He has one of the most amazing chins.. I think the most amazing and ironic thing i feel about this era of boxing is this..
Of the entire era maybe the last twenty years you can say that there are two people who stand out as utter defensive greats.. Bernard Hopkins, and an in shape James Toney
And ironicly both have some of the best chins ive ever seen in boxing

And Roy and Tony were in different weight classes for most of there careers just depends on how you look at who they beat and when they did it and what weight class they were at. Do i think Joe could go up as much weight as Roy and Tony did and still win i am not sure if he could. But at SM i think Joe has a good shot to win and do not think i am putting Roy and Tony down i am not Khan just talking about if they fought Joe what i think would happen thats it. So just thought i clear up anything you might of misunderstood what i was trying to say.
To question RJJ & Toneys greatness at their respective divisions is absurd.
We all expected threads like this if Joe won. Don't rise to it I say![]()
Look i am not question there greatness Cut all i am saying is what i think would happen if they fought Joe at SM.

If God wanted us to be vegetarians, why are animals made of meat ?
Maybe if he moves up to Heavyweight and beats Wlad people just might consider him good i guess.
