i've found that the reason i was getting a sore wrist after hitting the bag was because i wasn't following right through when i was striking. i seemed to be pulling back which also explains the loss of power.

That could be a habit from using the freestanding bag.
You can't follow through on the freestanding bag as it's not very forgiving and doesn't react naturally, so it hurts to follow through.

Then on the swinging bag, you don't follow through and it hurts. Practice i guess.
    Take care.

My advice would be to drop the bag work for a little while. Double the amount of Shadowboxing if you need (Actually I'd advise that as it'll ensure you are punching correctly) and when you come back pay close attention to the appearence of your hands after each session.

Someone told me when I was younger to "Listen to my Body," I hadn't a clue what he meant at the time but in Boxing it is essential to remember your working with a finely tuned and fragile instrument. Pain is a signal from your body to your brain indicating that an activity is harnful to the muscle/bone/tissue. By ignoring these signs You can potentially do more damage to yourself than any opponent you meet in Boxing.

The best of luck man and be careful.
CC for that Hitman I'll use that quote myself.
