I actually always felt he would do well against the fab 4, i think Leonard would out point him, i think Duran losses a close decision, i think Hearns gets stopped in the late rounds under McCallum's brutal body punches, and i think Hagler out points him in a close fight. The rumor has it that some of the fab 4 ducked McCallum ?? im not so sure about that but McCallum is an excellent all rounder, one of my favorite McCallum fights is the one with Donald Curry that left hook was just a perfect shot great KO from McCallum, and also the way he took Michael Watson apart was superb to watch considering how good Watson was.

I am not sure if they ducked him, but he was definitely high risk, low reward. He and Tommy were under the Kronk roof at the time so that fight would never have happened, but they did spar together.

My recollection of that fight was that Roy won with ease. Roy always respected and admired McCallum and it seemed to show in the fight. It seemed he took it easy on him and won because he was fresher and younger.

McCallum was class and you are right the way he took apart Watson's body in the first few rounds made Watson breath hard and surely made him think Benn was easy but this is world class.

McCallum was not renowned for his one punch KO power and that punch against Curry was a one off. Saw him bat terr Milton McCory which was brutal, solid chin and took the bombs of Julian Jackson and his body punching was sickening for the opponents that had to take them. Excellent jab, in fact excellent technical fighter, almost flawless.

People may disagree, especially from the US but I thought he won the first two fights with James Toney.

I think you could be right there Roy Jones Jr did respect McCallum a lot. I think they both respected each other i remember McCallum saying that Jones was even better than the fab 4. Maybe Jones did carry McCallum a little bit ?? but i still think McCallum's style just troubled Jones although Jones won easy, he had a few problems early on until he adjusted round about the 7th round.

I remember the report on the fight in boxing monthly, titled 'Loved up'

    Jones carried the bodysnatcher.

McCallums KO of Donald Curry was amazing, it was that good Lou Duva got a cut eye
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough

You think he could of stopped McCallum if he hadn't shown as much respect Memphis ??
