    ...let's put this in perspective

    Floyd Mayweather Jr. @ 147
    Sharmba Mitchell TKO 6
    Zab Judah UD
    Carlos Baldomir UD
    Ricky Hatton TKO 10

    Miguel Cotto @ 147
    Carlos Quintana TKO 5
    Oktay Urkal TKO 11
    Zab Judah TKO 11
    Shane Mosley UD

I would say Miguel has fought the better competition and beaten them more soundly at welterweight.

floyd beat both true WW champs...following the lineage from back to delahoya-mosley 1...baldo took all the belts from judah you know the rest.....

Not to take anything away from Floyd, 'cause he's a fantastic champ. But Lyle has a good point. Their common opponent at 147: Judah. Floyd UD'ed him.... Cotto KO'ed him. Hatton? We all know Hatton does not belong at 147. Whereas Mosley's a full-blown 147-pounder, who has fought at higher weights. So all in all... I'd give the edge in competition to Cotto.

That comparison's a little misleading, isn't it? Considering that Floyd was pounding Zab mercilessly until he got strafed square in the groin, upon which he went into cruise control. On the other hand, Zab was doing pretty well against Miguel until Cotto went low.

As for Mosley, Floyd beat Oscar at light-middle, fighting essentially as a welterweight, giving up about 15 pounds in the ring. Oscar's also two years younger than Shane. That's a toss-up in terms of difficulty, possibly edge to Floyd, as far as I'm concerned.

Cotto's been impressive against good opposition and deserves to be the #1 contender, but Floyd has earned his place, IMO.

Who’s to know what would’ve happened if Judah hadn’t aimed for Floyd’s nuts, followed by the blatant rabbit punch, and the riot that ensued. Maybe Floyd would’ve KO’ed Judah… who knows? On the other hand, low blows or not, Judah’s fate at the hands of Cotto was going to be the same no matter what. We don’t know that either. As for comparing Floyd-Oscar with Cotto-Shane… that’s where we differ. I thought Cotto’s hard-fought victory over a “younger-than-his-age” Mosley was 10 times more impressive than Floyd’s chess match victory over the overly cautious Oscar. But what the hell… that’s why they’re opinions.

Cotto hammered Judah throughout that fight I mean yeah Miguel got caught a couple times but it didn't affect the outcome. The low blows were unfortunant HOWEVER Judah had more time to use and he didn't use it to recover. Cotto is a rough and tough fighter he'd do that to anyone.

Floyd BARELY beat Oscar De la Hoya...and I would LOVE to see De la Hoya-Cotto right now to spurn on a PBF-Cotto match....I think Miguel is a better boxer than people give him credit for. Sure he gets credit for being a hard puncher and a brawler but vs Mosley he boxed pretty well in the later rounds, the same vs Abdullaev at 140 which is when I thought he did his best pure boxing.

Cotto's win over Mosley is his signature win right now...I have no idea what Floyd's signature win is....simply because he hasn't beaten someone THAT GOOD, THAT DECISIVELY....Hatton was out of his league at 147 and everyone should have known that after the Collazo fight

while cotto has made a fan out of me, beating judah after baldo and floyd beat him easily is just like giving delahoya credit for beating mayorga and vargas after tito ruined them....

urkal is a more than solid contender but i give the edge to baldomir seeing as how he was the WW champ....

so cotto beat shane and quintana
    pbf beat baldomir and oscar

that's about the same to me and their competition at WW has nothing to do with who dominates the division..floyd's the real champ cotto's the legimate contender nothing more nothing less

all the rest...quintana,cintron,margarito,clottey,berto,ju dah,collazo...all them while solid fighters aren't going to be great..cotto win or lose to floyd will be ..their little belts don't matter....esp seeing as how cotto already destroyed quntana....

and for me since these guys have never fought i use the beat the man philosophy until they do...

    cintron and clottey<maragarito<williams<quintana}cotto
    collazo< mosley} "

    judah<balmomir<}mayweather
    collazo< hatton<

so there you have it...mayweather and cotto the cream of the crop the rest are all just good plus great shane mosley entertaining fighters that are looking for a shot at the best two guys...
