i feel the same way pea, with his lanky frame he should be able to hold the extra few pounds. calzaghe would beat him, not 100% sure on kessler yet

I think Pavlik Kessler would be a great battle of chess. It would be a bit of a jabfest, but I think Kessler may have the flexibility to gain advantage over Pavlik during the fight. I would tip Kessler but I think it would be a test for both fighters... I think Calzaghe would just have too much for Pavlik.. He's got the full 12 rounds in the tank to match Pavliks pressure throughout, and to much ammunition, to much adaptability..
As Kessler said, his style 'spoils your boxing'... He'd be getting around that 1,2 all night and frustrate Pavlik's fundamentals which are so strong for him...

Pavlik would slot i nicely at 168, in fact I expect he'll fight at light heavyweight before his career is over. He's got a huge frame and still looks skinny at 166 lbs. It's possible imo he could end being a 3 weight world champ.

Saturday's fight showed Pavlik could box effectively as well as bang, since he didn't just walk through Taylor. I also got the feeling that his power might not be as devastating at SM, he still landed a lot on Taylor but was never really that close to putting him away.

Oh he hits hard at supper middle. Taylor just avoided his right hand like it was the plague. He landed one on Taylor with about one minute left in the first round that would starch out most fighters. If he would have landed that punch later in the fight, Taylor would have been out of there as you could see his head snap very violently.

Taylor just has a granite chin when he is not tired. he also has a lot of ring awareness and can prepare himself for bombs when he is fresh. Pavlik will be tough for anyone to beat. They can avoid his right hand, but then can simply get out worked by him. It will take someone with great foot and hand speed to beat him, and I can only think of one fighter at 168 with those attributes.

There isn't really anyone that can beat him at 168 except Calzaghe but i would even give Pavlik a chance in that one, because one of Calzaghe's biggest weaknesses is the straight right hand which he was caught over and over again by Woodhall, Reid. Now Kessler vs Pavlik would a very interesting fight, both men throw straight punches, and both men have very good technique. The edge in boxing skills goes to Kessler and the advantage in power going to Pavlik, there really isn't much too choose between them. I would love to see Pavlik shut Froch's big mouth, although Froch has some skills his defense is terrible and i think Pavlik would get rid of Froch in quick time. Andrade vs Pavlik like i said ages ago would be a very bad night for Andrade, Andrade blocks punches with his face and although he has a granite chin theres only so much a man can take, i think Bute is the darkhorse of the division i think he would give Pavlik some trouble, and as for Mundine he is a good fighter with good handspeed and i see Mundine giving Pavlik some trouble, but Mundine's defense is too leaky for my liking.

Overall like someone said Pavlik still looked very skinny at 166, and he should move to 168 without sacrificing any of his attributes, i think he could even move up to 175 without sacrificing anything as well. But before Pavlik moves up i would like him to atleast beat Abraham.

Here's my take.

Pavlik vs.

Calzaghe: Calzaghe by UD (If Calzaghe stays focused easy UD too much movement for anyone really, if Calzaghe tries anything "cute" though Pavlik is the man that can capitalize on it)

Kessler: Pavlik by UD (I can't see Kessler having the ability to adapt to Pavlik's attack, Kess is one of finest fundamental boxers in the game, I don't think that would help him one bit against Pavlik though)

Mundine: Pavlik KO (As mentioned before Mundine has a leaky defense
and a questionable eye now, Mundine has some definate speed, but Kelly's reach would nullify that advantage, after all if Sven Ottke could do it.....)

Bute: Bute by SD (This would be an excellent fight IMO, a great match-up both young fighters with everything to prove at 168, I think that Bute could actually outbox Pavlik, there I said it)

Andrade: Pavlik by KO (If you thought Andrade-Kessler was one sided, this would be sheer destruction)

Lacy: Pavlik by KO (Lacy has still looked like a broken man recently)

Froch: Pavlik by KO (I think Froch would catch him a few times, but Pavlik still prevails with his output)

I agree, not as devastating were my words, he'll still hit hard, but won't be able to depend on it IMO, which is why I was impressed with the way he essentially boxed his way to victory, and find a way around JT's tactics, I'm not convinced it was JT's stamina alone that gave Pavlik the last few rounds.

I have to disagree with most of you.
Although Pavlik is a great fighter at 160lbs, I dont think he would be as good at 168lbs. In his last fight he showed the his weight is not much of a problem. He had a 166lbs weight limit and came in at 164lbs. That shows that he does not need the extra weight, and it does not benefit him. He also did not look quite as good in this past fight with Taylor. Although Jermain fought better, it did not seem Kelly had the same power. Maybe this was do to other circumstances, not sure.

IMO at 168lbs, the extra weight will hurt him more than help him. Since he is such a great fighter, he would fare well with many of the top guys. I just think he is a much better middleweigh than he would be a supermiddleweight.
