WOW, this thread is really going the wrong way...

Guys I'm simply stating that he is holding a title which he has not defended against a mandatory in almost 2 years. Granted, I did not know Hatton was named the #1 contender at the time so that pretty much blows my argument right there.

It has nothing to do with who he has fought before. I give him all the respect for fighting DLH the first time to win another title and for defending his title against the best 140lber. This is all great stuff. I'm just wondering why I've heard nothing about the WBC demanding a mandatory or claiming to stripp Mayweather after PBF decided to take a break and then fight DLH again.

Andre Berto is the #1 WBC contender and I expect their people to demand a shot at the title some time this year. I don't want to see him fight PBF any time soon but it might be interesting to see what happends at the end of the year. Whether Floyd fights Berto or whether Floyd is stripped and Berto fights some other contender for a vacant title will add another name into the top of the Welterweight melting pot.

BTW Your wrong mate on the first statement, PBF fought Zab after the Baldomir loss

    Zab Judah
I think what he was trying to say was the fight with Zab was all but wrapped up before he fought Baldomir. Ta-ta was supposed to be a warm-up for Zab, not a humiliating defeat.

well andre berto is the number one contender for floyds title, but the wbc would rather sanction big money fights to get a bigger portion of sanctioning fees, so floyds will hold it as long as he wants

Well, lets hope Berto doesn't fight Floyd any time soon. He's a good prospect but he has no where near the experience to fight the likes of Mayweather... Estrada gave him trouble... Trabant was slow and tentative... He was a sitting duck for berto.

Floyd will not be stripped anytime soon. The WBC will ride the "Money Mayweather" train as long as they can.

I don't think this is accurate. Berto's handlers think he can be a future star, and as a result they are going to be very cautious not to rush him. He's still facing the Cosme Riveras and Michel Trebants of the world, he still has several stepping stones to go before he even thinks about facing someone who is a top-caliber opponent.

Mayweather fans will justify almost anything he does. Why the hell does he have to fight Zab after he lost to Baldimor. The credibility of the fight was gone, yet people will try to justify it.

    That's a fair criticism.

Although, for what it's worth, I still thought Zab was a more dangerous opponent for Floyd than Baldomir was, even though Baldomir had beaten Zab head-to-head.

The fight was made and the deal was signed. Zab was still a legit opponent and a bigger threat than Baldy. I guess he could have cancelled the Judah fight and gone straight to Baldomir, but then people would have bitched he was ducking Zab and that said. Zab had just had an off night. Or waited for Zab to rematch Baldy and stay in limbo. I've been on Mayweather's case for a lot of things, but he handled that situation right. Anyway, he beat them both and didn't waste much time.

But Margarito was even more dangerous at the time.

Probably, but he didn't have the recognition or lineal title. Tony was a paper champ, regardless of wheither he was more dangerous or not. Zab was the real champ when Floyd made the fight, then Baldy was the real champ. Then he fought Oscar.

I was wondering the same thing about that WBC strap.

Unfortunately, I think Money Mayweather has reached Goldey Boy status and can pretty much pick and choose what he wants to do...meaning the organization will probably cater to whatever he wants to do and let him hold on to the straps as long as he wants. Oscar De La Hoya was no different when it came to sitting on titles.

S'ok man I was thinking the same thing. I was thinking while I was away that when I get back on that somebody could answer this for me. I can't believe Hatton was made #1 contender. I'm a massive Hatton fan but that is a fucking joke. This thread should not be taken as a dig at Floyd, but more a dig at the WBC who I'm afraid stack up with all the other sanctioning bodies as a fucking joke. I don't care if Floyd is #1 P4P, there shouldn't be a rule for one guy that is different from the next.
