He could have not fought Baldomir, but then he would be ignoring the real lineal champ. I guess he could have fought Cotto instead of Oscar, but that would would have made about ZERO business sense.

You just summed it up yourself mate, Floyd ain't a fighter he's a businessman and has lost all of my respect for that.

Hatton was the universally recognized 140lb champ and former beltholder at 147. Are would you give Kessler or Calzaghe crap for defending against and beating Kelly Pavlik? The univeral champ one weight class below is almost always a legit defense.

No offence mate but why are you talking about that, the fight has not happend and your going completely off subject and Kelly Pavlik can fight at sup-mid and feels good at the weight unlike what Hatton stated and Pavlik looked impressive beating JT at sup-mid wheras Hatton did not when beating Collazo so yes I would give Calzaghe or Kessler praise if they beat Pavlik for the reasons I stated.

He'll fight Cotto eventually. If he doesn't fight Cotto with the next two years, we can bitch, because Cotto is the ONLY fighter who has really earned a shot at Floyd at 147. Tony screwed himself when he lost to Williams. Cintron? Please! Williams? Can we stop with that now. If Tony beats Cintron, then beats Cotto, or if Cintron beats Tony then Cotto (yeah, right) those guys will have claim.
And a part time ODLH deserves a shot why ?? He beat him rather simple the first time and with DLH a year older how will that improve his chance of beating Floyd "Fights no welter" Mayweather ??.

BTW Your wrong mate on the first statement, PBF fought Zab after the Baldomir loss

    Zab Judah

I'm sure the WBC wants to have their name attached to the guy who is the unquestioned #1 PFP fighter in the world.

They might grant him an exemption for this fight, as long as he fights a welter in his next fight.

Mayweather fans will justify almost anything he does. Why the hell does he have to fight Zab after he lost to Baldimor. The credibility of the fight was gone, yet people will try to justify it.

    That's a fair criticism.

Although, for what it's worth, I still thought Zab was a more dangerous opponent for Floyd than Baldomir was, even though Baldomir had beaten Zab head-to-head.

But Margarito was even more dangerous at the time.

The fight was made and the deal was signed. Zab was still a legit opponent and a bigger threat than Baldy. I guess he could have cancelled the Judah fight and gone straight to Baldomir, but then people would have bitched he was ducking Zab and that said. Zab had just had an off night. Or waited for Zab to rematch Baldy and stay in limbo. I've been on Mayweather's case for a lot of things, but he handled that situation right. Anyway, he beat them both and didn't waste much time.

    Floyd is a FRAUD.

    He almost had me fooled.

    Money Mayweather is counterfeit.

    I like that saying.

    Counterfeit Mayweather Jr.

I really do not buy into Mayweather having to fight Zab Zudah after he lost to Baldimor. Any justification to that fight was lost when Zab got beat and it cannot be justified.

However, it is being justified Mayweather having to fight Baldimor because he was the lineal champion, Oscar because it was a huge legacy fight, Hatton because ….he was undefeated? light welter champion? held a version of the welter title? You get my point, you can justify anything including not fighting Cotto, which is plainly ridiculous because he has beaten better Welterweights than Mayweather and deserves to be recognised as the best at the weight.

So in conclusion, to claim Floyd as the best P4P in the world when he is not the best at his own weight is simply wrong. It is plain to see Mayweather has avoided the best Welters in the division.

WOW, this thread is really going the wrong way...

Guys I'm simply stating that he is holding a title which he has not defended against a mandatory in almost 2 years. Granted, I did not know Hatton was named the #1 contender at the time so that pretty much blows my argument right there.

It has nothing to do with who he has fought before. I give him all the respect for fighting DLH the first time to win another title and for defending his title against the best 140lber. This is all great stuff. I'm just wondering why I've heard nothing about the WBC demanding a mandatory or claiming to stripp Mayweather after PBF decided to take a break and then fight DLH again.

Andre Berto is the #1 WBC contender and I expect their people to demand a shot at the title some time this year. I don't want to see him fight PBF any time soon but it might be interesting to see what happends at the end of the year. Whether Floyd fights Berto or whether Floyd is stripped and Berto fights some other contender for a vacant title will add another name into the top of the Welterweight melting pot.

Well, lets hope Berto doesn't fight Floyd any time soon. He's a good prospect but he has no where near the experience to fight the likes of Mayweather... Estrada gave him trouble... Trabant was slow and tentative... He was a sitting duck for berto.

Floyd will not be stripped anytime soon. The WBC will ride the "Money Mayweather" train as long as they can.
