he just come off his first loss so this i feel is a good fight for ricky, he can then go after the bigger names

Would rather have seen Hlatshwayo honestly, at least he's relatively fresh. Lazcano will just take a beating for a while.

After the way Lazcano performed against Vivian I expect Hatton to toss 'em up in a couple of rounds. The body shots will do the trick...

    Hatton TKO.

    Unhappy Re: Ricky vs. Lazcano

poor choice imo he just picked someone he knows he can look good against does nothing for his rep and shows his current mind set (lacking confidence). If he really is the best 140lb in the world he shouldnt need a tune up he should be fighting Witter,Torres,Paulie or Reese. Dont think i will be tuning in to this one

Hell heres an idea why dont they drag Arturo Gatti out of retirement and beat on him for couple of rounds for the fight after this

Hatton is a coward for ducking Witter again and facing yet another shot fighter Lazcano was good a couple of years ago. When he was at 135. At 140 he's undersized. Not only is he coming off a loss. But he's been on the sidelines for over a year. Terrible choice of opponents for Hatton

I think it's not the worst choice.. Given ONLY that he had a crippling loss to Floyd.. A professional fighter though should be able to bounce back from a loss even at the highest level and come dive right back into another blockbuster fight... But that was a Giant fight for Ricky and a Giant, almost humiliating loss for him. He had huge support and really would have felt he let a lot of people down, but more so himself....
I'll give him this one, but his next fight better either be with Witter for reasons sake, or something that will genuinelly go a ways to putting him to an undisputed #2 spot behind Mayweather...

Why has Witter become such a threat all of a sudden

the sad thing is if the fans keep defending these matchups and ricky is making money then... dont expect to see the witter fight anytime soon if at all

I really hope this doesnt backfire on Ricky because Naz done the self same thing after his lose and the fans didnt swallow it... watch this space
Hmmmm, good point about the Naz thing.....if Ricky fails to KO Lazcano there might be a few boos

Might be a bit difficult to fight them guys seen as tho Witter has a date in March, Rees is fighting Kotelnik, Torres has a date and Paulie just fought his way out of a potential clash with Hatton.

You can't fight guys that just aren't there.

    Who else does that leave?

Not many.....so Lazcano isn't the worst choice in the world.

Witter would drop any plan he made in the world to fight Hatton.. probably give him a 5 round head start too..

I believe that we are forgetting many different factors here:

    1) A fighter cannot fight a world class opponent every time. Other fighters like Miguel Cotto are proving this at the moment, so why does Ricky have to be different. He has just fought the best fighte in the world so I believe he deserves a break

    2) He has just fought at Welterweight. Ricky piled on 5 pounds of muscle mass for his last fight. Fighters like Roy Jones have demonstrated the dangder of shedding muscle mass and jumping in against the best opposition available.

    3) In the Maywether fight Hatton's ego took as much a bruising as his eyebrows did. Many fighters, following a defeat revert to a confidence builder, in which they can dominate and be made believe they are the best again. Ask Zab Judah.

    4) Finally, Lazcano will allow Ricky to make some money and regain his repuatation and respect among from fans.

Is that the venue for the fight?

    1, 2 and 3 are decent points.

    4 is silly.

Allow Ricky to make some money!?!? He just made MORE MONEY in one fight than 95% of fighters could ever dream of making in a lifetime.

Regain his reputation and respect? He'll be HUGE favourite over the inactive punchbag Lazcano. The ONLY people he will satisfy are his lovers.. who don't care who Ricky fights as long as he's bullying and bashing someone round the ring.

The General Public now see Hatton as a fellow who made a lot of noise before getting Knocked out by Floyd Mayweather.
In their eyes a KO win over Lazcano will be a step toward redemption.
