i think all cardio is boring esp when you sit for an hour riding a bike or running...what is your goal? and what exactly is wrong with the knee? i just started to come back from dislocating mine at work, and it is almost 3 months and i can do a lot except walking on a down slope or going down stairs is painful. keep doing the pt excercises they will get you the strenght you need, then try doing sprints on a bike or an eliptical trainer, to reduce pounding and reduce boredom by shortening the time..if you are training for boxin, anerobic fitness is what you need if you want to loose fat, you can stick with reg cardio, but also wdd weightsas muscle burns more calories than fat.

My goal... well I have no illusions of competing any more. I'm looking at coaching and I just want to be able to get back in the ring and be able to move around. Fat is not an issue I'm only about 3-4 pounds over what I used to be when I was fighting.

I have part of the cartlidge floating in my knee which is causing it to lock. Depending on the MRI results they will either shave or remove the cartlidge.

Swimming by yourself is boring. Swimming in a club is great. You get technique tips, people to race, you get pushed and learn to push more than you can alone.

Otherwise as someone said rowing is a good one, cycling isn't too bad, maybe rock climbing?

I've had a knee injury and I know how much it sucks. For me the answer was swimming but if that's not your thing I hope you find something else that suits. Good luck

You kinda hit the nail on the head I get bored doing stuff on my own. Four of us used to do road work together and we used to make it into a competiton as well as having a laugh. Thanks for the good wishes

My pup weighs more than me so I guess she'd be taking me for a walk lol.

Great news... The MRI showed no further damage to the cartlidge. The Dr says that with the correct physio and the right knee support I should be able to carry on training.

The only thing the scan showed was a bleed into the bone. He thinks that the knee dislocated and popped back in causing the damage. He does not know why the knee dislocated though and he said that the knee is not tracking correctly but he cant see why. Booked to see a 'knee tracking specialist' in 3 months...

Those kids at my local ABA club better watch out cos in 6 months time they're gonna have Danny Boy putting them through their paces

Many thanks for all the kind wishes guys... seems they may have worked...

I had the same thing .when I was young I fell out of a tree and hit my knee on a brick. seemed ok after the initail shock and got better. about 10 years later i was off down the street and my knee locked up totally.
turned out i had shattered my knee cap internally and a lump 3/4 inch x 3/4 inch had grown seperatley for years under the cap linked by a stem which snapped and the block caught and seized my knee.

Cool ,some people actually hate you when you show them the deeper way to getting better.

Sometimes you get them physically better in a matter of miniutes but its like shining a light on why and they hate you for it. Like kicking their life crutch out from under them.

    Hey Shamrock,

One thing I forgot to mention is that when you do want to gradually get back into using the knee a longish walk warm up might be helpful. I now walk for a minimum of 10 minutes but usually longer before any running.

I got onto the idea because my chiro said at one stage I could walk for a period of time when she didn't recommend running. She said that the walking motion will make your spine move with a therapeutic oscillations which are quite healthy for it.

I think the walk warm up prepares my back and helps it find a saer alignment before running which prevents the knee pain i get when things are out of alignment.

Another woman I originally met through swimming who also was unable to run for a long time has found the same thing works for her. She also had back problems and found that running caused her too much pain but now she does run about 3 times a week with a 20 minute walk warm up.

Anyway maybe see how it goes when you think you're ready to gradually get back into slightly higher impact stuff. Of course it took me months of running for short periods of time on very soft grass with very gradual build up to get back into things. I found when i got too excited and tried to speed up the process I was my own worst enemy though so I'd recommend taking it slowly!

Hope it's getting better for you though - let us know how it's going sometime!
