Ricky Hatton's lawyer has hit back at Junior Witter's latest attempts to secure a domestic light-welterweight super-fight by dismissing the potential showdown as "a waste of time".

Williams said: "Ricky has got numerous options to pursue. He is being courted by every big promoter in the US and we have options like Manny Pacquiao, Juan Diaz or a rematch against Floyd Mayweather.
"Why is he going to fight Junior Witter when he can fight any of those guys? In our opinion Junior brings nothing to the table. Unless things change dramatically there is no way he is going to fight Ricky Hatton."

HATTON LAWYER DISMISSES WITTER | Sporting Life - Boxing News | Joe Calzaghe, Bernard Hopkins, Amir Khan, Fight Reports, Klitschko v Ibragimov, Ricky Hatton, Floyd Mayweather.

Hatton's next fight will be against somebody he can easily beat. After that it's going to be straight back to the big-money options with Witter a fallback option if he gets a couple of defeats in a row or something. Even then it's unlikely as if Witter wins it makes Hatton's career look a bit fraudulent. It's a risk Ricky doesn't have to take so he won't. I'd almost like to see whoever fights Ricky next to knock him out too so that he eventually has to fight Witter.

Is it me or isn't Hatton still the man at 140? To be the man, you should have to beat him, and nobody at 140 can claim that distinction. Hatton will fight him eventually, but why fight someone who winds you up when you just lost your head against the last guy that pissed you off? Let him come back, get a title and then lets have unification.

I've said it before and I will say it again, Witter fans don't know what they're talking about.

Name one reason why Hatton should face Witter ??

Because Witter holds a nice shiny green belt which says world champion on ??

I doubt Hatton really wants a rematch with Floyd. He got his ass kicked once already.

I don't see any problem with Hatton not wanting to fight Witter this spring. After a big KO loss, it's acceptable for Hatton to want an easy fight to get back on track.

After this fight though, if Witter is the biggest offer out there and Hatton turns it down for a lesser fight, then I think Hatton is open for criticism.

Because Lacanzo is a ranked opponent and a good name after coming off a crushing first loss via knockout, Hatton needs to build his confidence up and get that winning mentality back.

But according to you and Hatton's people Witter is not that good. And he's ranked higher than Lazcano. So why not fight him?

Because Hatton is coming of a crushing KO loss and Witter is full of confidence.

Ever heard the saying a confident fighter is a dangerous one??

Hatton WILL fight Witter, he just needs to regroup after the loss.

But Hatton says he wont fight Witter . If he said " someday I'll fight him " people would get off his back but it looks like Hattons waiting to get beat again then retire having never met his locak rival

Names like Floyd , Pac , Diaz etc are mentioned and that Hattons excuse so why is he mentioning Lazcano ? Witter would be a better fight .

Another thought: Hatton has been spoiled financially his whole professional career. He just made mega millions in a fight with the number one fighter on the planet. He is not short of a quid and could walk away today with no cares for the rest of his life.

Where is he going to find the motivation from? We know he likes a bevvy...

Hatton has the ability to rule 140 for a while, but does he have the desire?

After Tszyu lost to Vince Phillips he was ordered to pay his old promoter nearly $4 million - at that stage I'm guessing Tszyu's best purse would have been around $250000.

My point is that after defeat Tszyu put his head down, bum up and WORKED FUCKING HARD, if not for the glory then at least for the coin - he needed it.

Can and will Hatton do the same?

I think he should fight Witter because Hatton claims hes the number 1
light Welter, but next to Hatton Witters the man in the division, that shiny
green belts also the best one to have and when the champion is willing to take a 30% share it seems a logic choice of fight, unless hes scared he
    could lose...

Phil I could turn that around and say Mayweather says he's the best at WW and next to Floyd is Cotto and yet Mayweather won't fight Cotto and yet Hatton has said that the Witter fight will happen when he's ready i.e got confidence back, read the first article I posted.

Mark my words Witter v Hatton will happen.

Phil I think that statement is lame.

"That shiny green bet is the best one to have". That's bullshit and whether it's IBF, WBA whatever there all the same.

Hatton said "I'll fight him when I want to", that means he'll fight him when his confidence, motivation and desire is back.

Floyd Mayweather said "I ain't calling out any welterweights" now that is someone that is scared to fuck.
