Wlad has looked technically brilliant in his last four fights. However, no one has really smacked him since Lamon. Peter took him down three times, but Peter never really landed a clean flush shot on the jaw or temple. You know the kind I mean. He sorta clubbed/slapped/pushed Wlad around in their first fight.
I love me some Wladdy and he'll do well for awhile yet but I think there's a hardwired fear he fights with now that will keep him from engaging in any memorable slugfests heretofore. The guy hits like a mack truck, but I think the days he could take as well as he could give are waning steadily. IMO.
Great guy, great fighter, great champ. As much as I love him, he is on top because there really isnt anyone to phsically challenge him at the moment. I'm loathe to admit it, but for at least four rounds Id be terrified of what Shannon Briggs might do. Valuev is big enough to possibly wear Wlad down.
In a nutshell, I continue to look forward to Wlad's quest for unification, but I regrettably admit that i think the next guy to come along with any size to him that can land a punch clean is going to end it. Fortunately for Wlad, one of my faves, there doesn't seem to be anyone fitting that bill at present.
