Anyway isn't a fungus a plant? I mean it grows in the ground right, and you can plant them........

To be honest I don't know a lot about mushrooms.

When people say plant science it can be a pretty broad term though and I do know a couple of people who have worked with mushrooms.

We often use bacteria etc for our work so a general knowledge of biology comes into play a bit.

So basically I wouldn't be much help myself unless I was put on a project and asked to learn about it - then I'd have access to all the right journals.

I do have a friend who lives in the country in an area where a lot of wild mushrooms grow and I have collected them, cooked and eaten them with her.

She studied plant science too.

I can't remember how we could tell the difference between the good and bad ones now.........

Honestly I've been looking at drought toleance of wheat for the last 2.5 years and their roots specifically so there's no point in expecting me to know much about anything else!

Besides I didn't offer to come on your expedition - I still think you should take Fantana who mysteriously has not posted anything after his initial story .......

lol he's probably off on another adventure as we speak. I expect he's climbed a beanstalk that appeared in his garden overnight and is now high above the clouds looking for the giant.

I'm picturing your job involves placing trays of wheat at the foot of a door and measuring growth rates. Then if they grow successfully you repeat the experiment but open the door a little wider next time, then a bit wider, and a bit wider......

Dudes were out there surfing in the area soon after.

Would be fast and horrific, not boring though.
