With Arturo Gatti it was different because Gatti had been a boxer before he turned slugger, so McGirt only needed to get him back to what he had been before. With Litzau, trying to make him a scientific boxer on short notice was a disaster.
Ooops saw this after i wrote...but obviously agree...

Well he can't be a bad trainer, or he wouldn't keep getting fighters seeking his service. It goes both ways really, I do agree that he trains to many fighters.. But who can blame him, it's money in the bank for him, and it should be up to the fighters to leave him if they feel he isn't commited to helping them.. Thing is when he spreads himself out training so many different guys he's bound to have a lot of his fighters lose. I don't think there are a great deal of instances where you could point the finger at him alone for a fighter doing poorly though. I do suspect maybe he isn't as passionate about his fighters as most trainers are.. If he were, he'd realize he needs to drop about half of his guys and focus on developing those he can really help. As someone said, you can't fault him for being brought in to help a veteran fighter who then loses.. Maybe he does try and reinvent the wheel by getting brawlers to box, but it's not his fault they don't see this themselves, since they know exactly what he'll bring to their camp ahead of time. Buddy just needs to be more selective in the type of fighters he works with imo.. Look at Emanuel Steward, he basically has a certain type of fighter he works with, and won't train unorthodox guys, or sluggers etc. It's also just partly bad luck that Buddy has never really had a great young fighter under his wing.

Well his son is still doing very well (ooops jinxed him).I think it's type of fighter's that Buddy choose's.It seems he like's to take brawlers and turn them in boxer's.Joel Julio,Antonio Tarver,Arturo Gatti,Lamon Brewster.Maybe he would have some luck if he started picking guy's who were boxer's and told them how to punch.I dunno I'm talking out of my ass.
