It's more than just 3 commercials, I can find more of them but I was just trying to get a point across.

The Southern accent may be close to an English accent but when it comes down to it, the Southern accent IS different and therefore NOT the English accent and so your point is?

A)So what you have to hear a few commercials,and maybe the occaisional Hugh Grant film you probably wouldnt want to watch anyway since its a chick flick
B)Just because he says stuff in a Southern Accent,doesnt mean Ron White isnt funny

Why must you always search out my posts to disagree with them...can't you just sit back and say "You know what, I never thought why a Gekko would have an English accent and also sell insurance in AMERICA....maybe Lyle is right and Geico's marketing strategy is complete shit"....why use an English accent to sell AT&T laptop connect cards? I dont think any of the ad reps who came up with the Gieco commercials talk with a thick cockney accent
They probably all talk like Patrick Bateman from American Psycho
My point on the Blue Collar Tour(which I find funny)Larry The Cable Guy doesnt really talk like that at all,he really doesnt have an accent,he affects a Southern accent for his "character"
But try saying Gett'R Done without a southern accent,it just sounds stupid

Because adverts don't sell a product generally, they sell aspirations ..... so the use of a foreign accent reinforces national stereotypes (whether or not they are true or not) .... thus a perfume sold in a French accent is supposed to imply sophistication and sex etc.


Cleraly, you would not want to use and English accent to sell dentistry, or indeed an American one to sell anti-obesity or intelligence pills. These things are not true, but adverts are not about the truth.
