Because adverts don't sell a product generally, they sell aspirations ..... so the use of a foreign accent reinforces national stereotypes (whether or not they are true or not) .... thus a perfume sold in a French accent is supposed to imply sophistication and sex etc.


Cleraly, you would not want to use and English accent to sell dentistry, or indeed an American one to sell anti-obesity or intelligence pills. These things are not true, but adverts are not about the truth.

So car insurance, wireless internet, and laundry detergent are all things English accents can help sell because?

Yes that was funny Trainer...I don't know how he could figure that North Carolina is in the North....Richmond the 2nd Capital City of the CSA is farther North than North Carolina.
