They were so long trying to set up a Michael Hunter-Bernard Dunne fight to see who the next big thing was.

Then Hunter was beaten by Molitor and Dunne by Martinez and the rest is history!

    Good fighter Hunter.

Ditto - Hunter was always on the outskirts of becoming a great fighter before he met Esham Pickering back in 2005. Pickering was the man about town at the time on top of his game. Hunter proved during the Pickering fight that he could mix it with the best and outboxed, outscrapped, and outworked Pickering in a great performance. For me, that was his finest performance, shame he has decided to call it a day, but the weight issue probably was 95% of why he made the decision.

I feel you may be right.
After such a great confidence booster, Pickering gets beaten by Dunne and then he gets stopped by Molitor. I think when he realised he wasn't strong enough for that weight and he could no longer make it he said to hell with getting heavier, that would be too much punishment.

I'll always remember that fight with Hunter Vs Pickering at the Borough Hall in my local town of Hartlepool. It was a great battle. For Hunter to get up from two consecutive knockouts(1st,2nd round)and to battle on all the way through the 12 grooling rounds and to still win on points was awsome. He really did show 100% heart and desire as well as pure gritt on that spectacular bout.It seem to all go Hunter's way after he caught Pickering with a shot in the 5th which resulted Pickering getting cut above the eye.As soon as he was cut he seem to be on the back foot and getting countered with great shots from hunter. What a great turn around fight that was.I'll never forget that night!!RESPECT to you HUNTER and good luck for in the future whatever that may be!

Shame, I always enjoyed his fights. I suppose retirement had been on the cards for a little while though. He's achieved plenty and hes getting out with a very good record so fair play to him.
Good luck to him in the future.
