Burt Sugar sort of sucks

Sort of sucks. He tells the same 10 jokes over and over again during every interviews.

and he doesn't let accuracy get in the way of his boxing stories.

On an ESPN classics fight interview about mike tyson, burt sugar tried to say that- Mike Tyson was so angry about having to re-tie his gloves during the Spinks fight, that Tyson punched a hole in the wall; and his fist went through and went right by michael spinks face on the other side of the wall.

And Brian Kenny could not let that tall tale slip by- Kenny insisted several times that Burt admit that the story was a fake. But Burt stuck to his word

Burt knows what is true and what isn't...He also does not expect people to believe everything he says in stories like that...By Burt insisting on the story is his way of letting everyone know...."Is it possible I doubt it but it was told to me by someone close to his camp at the time and if I discredit the story I might as well be calling him a liar"....Not good business you start calling people a liar on air etc....

And in the episode you are speaking of Sugar also mentions at the beginning of the story..."There is a story going around"....and another favorite of his..."As history will have you believe"...He never said he seen it personally or he was there

Whether he qualified his answer or not to that specific question, Burt loves to tell tall tales. His story's arn't boxing fact; they are boxing folk lore.

Sugar thinks he's the God of boxing or somethin. Its annoying.
After I read a story he did a few years back insisting tht Roy Jones LOST to Tarver in their first fight and that he "need only look at the two men's faces to see who the real winner was." I lost a lot of respect for him. What a jack ass...

Also he often tells the tale of how willie pep won the third round against graves without throwing a punch.. im not sure how but it was later officially disproven..Lol

I like Burt Sugar he's a follower of the sport, he knows the history of the sport and the stories that were told as well...people do like looking back at the folklore of the sport....take baseball for example, Babe Ruth's called shot, Dizzy Dean telling batters what pitches he was going to strike them out with, and Ty Cobb getting stabbed during a robbery chasing the guy down pistol whipping him and still playing in a meaningless regular season game after getting stitched up....boxing isn't the only place where big stories are told....all the ones I told for baseball are true as far as I know but you don't forget folklore....you might forget history though

And he is one of the best writers the sport of boxing has ever seen.

Hugh McIlvanney for one.but i wouldnt even call Sugar an author.
he`s an annoying asshole waving that cigar around like he`s some wise old sage. did you guys see the ESPN show on the 10 greatest Heavyweights he said Lennox Lewis wasnt in his top 20......HE IS NOT EVEN in his 100 best fighters!!!! opinions are fine but this guy preaches like everything he says is gospel. and he`s not even around THAT long.
i heard him say his 1st fight at the garden was a Gene Fullmer fight.
i think he`s a charlatan and not even an entertaining one!!!!
