A saw a decent kid come over here and Batter a Brit for the WBO featherweight title . Steven Luevano was his name . He'd make for a good fight with Pac cuz he comes to win . Valero is improving . Arthur may have already peaked but atleast he is in his 20s . If Katsidis does well vs Casa then a match with Pac would be a natural given their styles . . Linares would be another if he wants to move up . There are good fights for Pac out there . Just got to be made .

I think it will be tough for JMM to psychologically hurdle those 3 first round knockdowns. He did so during the fight, because he had to, he's already there, and no time to think. However, given 4 years to mull over it...it's almost impossible for it not to be a mental burden. It's like going to a dentist knowing a root canal is a strong procedural possibility! The legs will feel it during the fight. Nerves will be a huge detriment, just like Morales in II, and just like Tommy Hearns against Marvin Hagler from way back. I mean the nerves will contribute to rubber legs, or immobility... a huge factor.

Marquez vs. Pacquiao 2: Filtering Through the Hype
    by: Dennis Anthony Guillermo
Theboxingmatrix.com The champion of boxing news

Hollywood couldn't have had a better script. Fighter gets knocked down 3 times in the first round. Gets back up then round after round takes control of the fight and wins ultimately in the end. Though the fight may have ended in the judges' scorecards as a draw, in the eyes of many, Juan Manuel Marquez (48-3-1, 35 KOs) did enough to win his first bout against Manny Pacquiao (45-3-2, 34 KOs). And just like any other Hollywood blockbuster, it deserves a sequel.

A few hours away from the much awaited rematch dubbed "Unfinished Business" at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada, and before you place your bets, allow me to assist you in deciphering hype from reality regarding this great match-up.

    The Puncher vs. The Boxer

Boxing analysts have labeled this fight to be a clash of two contrasting styles with Marquez being regarded as the boxer/ counter-puncher and Pacquiao the KO artist/puncher. Four years have passed since their first bout, on that fact alone, basing the rematch solely on that bout would be a critical error. Although Marquez still possesses the edge in boxing skills and craft, Pacquiao has shown in his bouts after the first Erik Morales fight that he has developed into a more complete fighter. While Marquez was adding up wear and tear in his tires, Pacquiao added the right hand to his arsenal on top of better control of his aggression and speed without compromising his head and body movement.

Pacquiao: Too Good for his Own Good?

Not too long ago, Manny Pacquiao was considered by more than a few to be the Pound-for-Pound best. But after a mediocre 2007 where Pacquiao pursued a career in politics on top of his music and movie career in the Philippines and two rather ho hum victories against Jorge Solis and Marco Antonio Barrera, people have started labelling Pacquaio as "overrated". Some have even said Pacquiao is on the decline. This is where I come in. All this hype regarding Pacquiao's all of a sudden "decline" is symbolic to the first Marquez and Pacquiao fight. Just as he did in round 1 of that fight, Pacquiao burst into the American boxing scene like a typhoon in the Pacific. Everybody was in awe at how he dominated the competition and in the "Internet age" Pacquiao was a virtual unknown until he stepped in the ring with then avoided African champion Ledwaba in 2001 as a last minute replacement. He followed that up with a sensational TKO battery of the revered Marco Antonio Barrera in 2003. In his defense, Pacquiao is a victim of his own success. The "shock factor" Pacquiao stirred with the way he jumped on the scene and Marquez as well in the first round of their first fight worked against him in times that he did "just enough" in winning rounds against Marquez and winning his recent bouts. Don't get confused, Pacquiao is still a juggernaut. And now that he's shown that he's overcome all of his previous distractions (promotion, vices, friends etc.) more than ever, Pacquiao is a force to be reckoned with. We'll see tonight.

    The Last Mexican Standing

With the pending retirement Barrera and Morales, the hopes of the Mexican Boxing community are now all funneled in on Marquez to beat Pacquiao. Dubbed by sports scribes as the "Mexicutioner" Pacquiao has dropped Mexican legends and up and coming undefeated Mexican stags on his way to boxing fame. Juan Manuel knows this more than anyone, that's why he has described his preparation for tonight's fight as better than he's ever prepared before. But does he really have what it takes to weather the storm? Those who pick Marquez count on him to outbox Pacquiao en route to a close 12 decision. If he can replicate the counter-punching display he showed in the middle rounds of the first bout, then JuanMa may have just enough to pull off the upset. That however is easier said than done. Marquez is now 34. And as much as a lot of boxing analysts criticize the opponents Pacquiao has faced in the last 4 years, I find it more puzzling that they have somewhat overlooked the level of talent Marquez had to go through to get here. Aside from an already "exposed" Rocky Juarez and a "washed-up" Barrera whom he barely escaped from in a controversial UD, Marquez hasn't really faced top caliber boxers either. He even lost to Chris John in Indonesia in an also controversial decision. So before you believe all the hype about Marquez being a superior boxer, consider all these other factors before placing your bets on "Dinamita".

MEXICAN FIGHTERS FAVOR PACQUIAO TO WIN

Articles have surfaced from various websites regarding other notable Mexican fighter's predictions on this fight. Philboxing.com has reported that Marco Antonio Barrera whom both Pacquiao and Marquez fought and defeated last year is betting for Pacquiao but admits since he is Mexican that he'd like to see Marquez win. Fightfan.com published a transcript of it's interview with Rocky Juarez whom Marquez beat last November saying he thinks Pacquiao will win. Various media from the Philippines have also reported that another great Mexican legend Erik Morales is predicting a Pacquiao KO victory. Is Marquez really that underrated? Or will "Dinamita" prove the odds right?

    MY PREDICTION

Barring a headbutt, Pacquiao wins by KO in the 10th RD.

Marquez had Pacquiao in trouble in the 8th, when he opened up Pac with a viscious right to Pac's right eye and with well over two minutes remaining. He never surged forward to finish and claim a knockout or inflict more damage, instead, he was just content on his "gameplan" of just relying on counter punching, and ducking to avoid that powerful lunging left straight. Except for a brief part of the 11th, he fought the whole night backpedalling, , too content on relying to finish the fight at an upright position, and hope to "do enough" to score in the cards. The agressor wins it! The judges did not want to hand it to JMM in a silver platter. They did not want to inspire those kind of fighters that are just content to "do enough" to win. Pacquiao staked his claim, and wins by a split decision. That is that. No amount of sugar can sweeten sour grapes.

That's not what I saw. JMM was surging for a kill and took advantage of the bloodied eye. he was able to hit the Pac many times but unfortunately, he failed to score a KO. Very good fight, though. Much better than the PAC vs Barrera II.
