Daxx I agree with some parts of your post.
Other parts is more of looking at it from another angle...

I know and understand the 'hype' part of it. We've seen it happen time and time again. Most recently with Joel Julio (BUT his loss to Carlos has know since then been 'axed' as a loss to a good boxer)

Anyway my point being that loosing in this manner right now can be seen as being exposed, found, being a fraud etc. etc. etc.
Daxx, I to Am tired of hype that surronds certain fighters early in their careers. I've talked about this before but I learned my lesson with 'Panchito' Bojado when I swore up and down the Pacific Coast Line that he'd be a champ by 2006 and would reign supreme for many years to come. I preached the Bojado Gospel from his 1st all the way up until his loss to Leija. From that fighter forth I promised that I would no longer hype up fighter with less then 20-25 fights depending on quality of oppositon among other things.

Lees got talent and he's shown it in the ring. Even tonight when he lost he showed that he has tools. I can def. see Lee coming back from this.

Guess my point is that I wouldn't call this 'Exposure' cause I think Lee just had a bad night. If you check one of my posts from today I just posted that I thought Lee would loose to someone who moved well and Vera did. Lee couldn't find him but Vera did...

Let's not forget how many fighters have lost early in their careers and have bounced back to become champions and even ATG.
Hopkins, Alexis, The Marquez Bros., Carlos De Leon etc. etc. the list is endless.
From being touted as the next great middleweight champion of the world to getting KTFO by a first round Contender KO victim.........you can't get any more exposed than that

Nope I never bought the hype as this was the first time I ever saw him. Didn't even know what he looked like before today much less whether he was any good.

He sucked, reminded me a lot of that Aussie prospect in physical appearance Daniel Geale. He sucks too.

Exposure? No. Bullshit stoppage. Lee was having a bad night, but he was still even or slightly winning the fight. You don't stop a fight when somebody is still throwing back. It's not like Vera was dominating Lee all night. This was crap. I'm saying Lee isn't perhaps a bit overhyped, but if Steve Smoger has been in charge, the fight would have continued. These two will have a rematch and Vera will be outcold, on the canvas within 3 rounds. Shame on Lee for not bringing his A game, but this could have been a FOTY candidate and the pussy-ass ref robbed us of that. It just sucked.

I agree. This is why I like Smoger so much. Smoger has given the fans some of the best fights to remember. Steve Smoger is THEE BEST referee ever. I sometimes think what a lucky guy he is because he has been able to witness some of the best fights in the world up close and personal. Smoger is a legend. Andy Lee and the fans were robbed. This fight shold have ended by knock out and I am not saying who would have got knocked out but some one was going to get knocked out before the fight was over.

PS. I will say this is the only time I wished I were not Smoger. I don't envy him one bit here:

We do seem to be seeing some of the "hyped" prospects and young titlists of our current crop of fighters coming a cropper recently, with John Duddy scraping a win and getting his face mashed to mince, Lee getting stopped, Kiko Martinez beaten well, Juan Diaz beaten. And there's plenty more opportunities over coming months too...which ain't necessarily a bad thing.

Sad fact is, the current sport seems to have a small number of elite superstar fighters, and then a lot of average fighters in the tiers below them in many divisions, and people are always eager to see someone who can really shake things up and penetrate that top tier.

He was for certain exposed i didn't jump on Andy Lee band wagon, but i thought he was a solid prospect, but there was a few people like Hitman Donny who thought Lee would of beaten Wright, Pavlik, and quite amazingly a lot of people thought that as well. So yes he was for certain exposed and he certainly isn't as good as i thought he was. A lot of undefeated fighters are either getting exposed or just flat out getting there ass kicked this year, when will it end ??

aahhh... Where you watching that fight?? It doesn't matter how much of an off night Lee was having, or how much longer you would've liked to see him get hit with slow looping shots. The fact is with the things that were being said about him he had no business in hell losing to Vera, who is an extremely limited fighter. Lee showed many glaring flaws in this fight, which would get him pulvarized against a guy who can actually fight. He can't tie up, doesn't put any shots together, he pulls straight back with his hands low after throwing the 1-2(which is about all he seems to throw). Vera was actually beating him to the jab at times and managed to bust him up with it. Andy Lee won't beat any remotely good fighter anytime soon. Steward was saying he's ready for Pavlik or Winky Wright. I'd call that exposed.

Wow,alot of good stuff in here. My thoughts are that Lee is another "vicitm" of Stewards recent string of being a cursed trainer, lol. Andy showed nothing special except his frickin' tremendous heart, which kept him on his feet throwing by "habit". The stoppage was for Lee's personal safety, not for his lack of being still game in there. He made Vera able to fight the match of his life an dnow we'll have to endure him getting some glory fights off of this. I thank Manny Steward for this. This guy didn't look like he was anywhere near ready for a ten round fight experience wise. His youtube bio and KO films are meant to promote him and not show the bad. We were simply misled and Steward is right on track training fighters to "do what they do" a little better but not teaching any adaptive skills for when a fight actually goes wonky on them.

Lee may have gourged on boiled potatoes this St. Patty's day. Maybe that had something to do with his downfall.
