I agree - Rees gave his all
I never rated him though and knew he would come undone sooner rather than later. Just glad he didn't get to stage where he got in with Khan and Khan did him and rated it a victory over a great fighter.
Rees is domestic level class only. Look at his record on boxrec - he never really beat anyone of quality

Don't bully fat kids - they've got enough on their plate
Couldn't beleive gavin rees last night. Got caught with some stupid shots did some stupid things and deserved to get KO'd in the end fair does he fought his heart out and full respect to the guy, going in there with bigger lads...But he wasted it.Not listening to his corner and so many silly mistakes.
"It wasn't the night of the jab"
Didnt relize how bad Rees's defence is it was terrible. He needs to drop at least 1 maybe 2 divisions. He did fight his heart out but at that level is isnt enough.
Gavin Rees was given the chance to win a World Title and took it - credit to him. The WBA are to blame for giving him a shot but he did win so it was justified.
He lost to Kotelnik who was ranked 4th overall in the division (according to Boxing Monthly) a guy who some thought beat Junior Witter when they met.
Kotelnik is a class operator, great defense and counter punching skills. Rees tried his best and gave a good account of himself despite his disadvantages height wise.
Did he get KO'd, I thought it was RSF.
He went down in 12th, but that was because he fell down, his tank had completly gone.
As for people having a go at him for daring to be world champion' and having a go at his promoter for daring to give him a world title shot, those are silly comments.
Fair play to the lad he beat M'Baye, but fell short last night.
He didnt fall short last night due lack of effort. Just being at wrong weight with little power and some poor technique.
As for the Ukranian, if he fought like that against Hatton he will be knocked out.
Gavin Rees is the epitome of what is right in modern boxing. He was given the opportunity to be a champion and he made the most of it. And when it came time to defend his belt, he left it all in the ring. What more can you ask for?
Rees took a beating, dropping his hands was stupid but he did say he was disoriented after the third round. The defeat has shortened his career and he wasted a 9 months of it by sitting on the title. Khan would have beaten him. That would have been even worse.
