In addition to being a highly anticipated fight, Pac-Marquez also benefitted from good timing. There hadn't been a big PPV since Pavlik-Taylor II a month earlier, and there isn't another HBO PPV until 5/31 with Mosley-Judah.
All the fights coming up... Cotto, DLH, Calzaghe-Hopkins, Margarito-Cintron II, they're all free. So people were more willing to drop the $50 on Pac-Marquez.
It's ironic that of all the fights coming up they make Mosely Judah a PPV.
It will flop imo
Bilbs,
SSM-Zab wont flop you wanna know why?
Because Zabs the 'new' Tyson.
People just wanna see him fight. They don't care that he's past it they just know he's good for the entertainment. They know he'll go in there do well for the 1st few rounds and then he starts getting beat.
It's entertainment, it's worth the people dollars and that's why they'll pay.
This is brilliant match making. SSM & Zab both have lost to Cotto. Zab caught Cotto with some good shots and looked alive for a total of about 2 and half maybe 3 rounds. That alone caused people to keep Zab in the talks. SSM did very well against Cotto and kept it a close fight. So now we have them both fighting. This is a great pitch and far as entertainment value goes and people will buy it cause they wanna see Zab wreck. I said this in 2006 Zab will be the 'new' Tyson and he has become just that.
Guess what he'll loose to SSM and then in 5, 6 months he'll be back again and some Network will pick him up. Why? Cause he's worth the investment
and the networks know it.
