I have got to say Cortex refing against Hatton was shocking but only for the first 6 rounds.

I like it when he said to Hatton I am going to start deducting some points and either Hatton or Graham turned round and said "you already have". It was just comedy.

I think Cortez is generally a good ref but he did not start the Hatton fight well at all.

As for the ref in the Choi fight I though he was going crazy. He should have deucted a point for Matthews spitting out the gum shield. If not he should have let the fighters continue then put the gum shield in at the next break in action. There were a number of things against Choi so glad he prevailed.

so the referee was mr parris , incidentally he was the referee for hatton vs kotsa , i remmeber this fight as i bet against hatton and thought the ref was bias and letting hatton rough kotsa up more than to much, , but its funny how we then complain about hatton vs mayweather and how hatton was treated, which one was worse paris or cortez?

There are some good nights ref wise and then there are bad nights. Part of the game in any sport. We've all seen ref's affect an outcome tons of times hell it even happens sometimes in sports that have replay. But in a situation like the hatton fight no matter what happened people were gonna bitch. If anyone is to blame it's the worker who put that ringpost in hattons way (jus playin) but the ref wasn't the one who lunged in, threw wide punches, or low and behold just got beat by a better fighter (which too often is the real reason guys loose but the last reason people give for doing so).

Cortez is alright with me. There are honest mistakes, and just plain rediculously refereeing. Other ref would've stopped the fight when Pac knocked JMM down for the third time in 1st round. Plus, he did a terrific job in last David Diaz's fight with the fallen mouth piece, and the loose tape on the glove.

Richard Steel created one of the most controversial call in Chavez-Taylor, but overall he's one of my favorite.

And yes, had the fight been the other way round (Choi getting battered) I bet it would have been stopped after the first knockdown.

Also Derry must have broken Floyd Mayweather's record for turning his back.
That was bad but as I've said I've seen some that are on par...

How about ref. Jorge Alonso he's had a couple of shitty nights the worst one was when he was the 3rd man for Campbell vs. Quiles...
Atlas was almost in tears urging them to stop the fight.
That was as wrong as Paris performace.

    I agree Lefty....
I have respect for Cortez but he done fucked on that night.

Pacquiao slipped in first round against Barrera, and he ruled it as a KD.

Lawrence Cole is a moron. I heard he's still referreing in Texas because of his Dad.
That was a bad night for Lawrence I know he's better and I've seen him work well.

your absolutly right that he blew that call, but instantly after the fight Cole admitted his error, and has done a pretty good job since.
The best ref right now is without a doubt Steve Smogger. He lets fight reach their natural conclusion.
The best in my life time: Mills Lane
I agree on Smoger, I also like Kenny Bayless and Raul Caiz Jr.

Even Mills has had his bad nights...
Anyone remember the long count in 1st knockdown for Nunn vs. Tate?
I gotta say it was least 12 to 13 seconds...

Alright you guys got me going here....

Another bad performance was Mercante Jr. when he let Pernell land something like 10 clean shots on Diosbelys. I know Mercante Jr. knew he made a mistake that night. I'm sure he'd do it differently if he had the chance.

The refs. name escapes my mind at the moment but the ref. for Zarate vs. Gomez did a shitty job in letting Gomez hit Zarate 'twice' while Zarate was down. I don't think Zarate would have beat Gomez anyway BUT it's better to win the right way then hitting a man while he's down twice.
