I tend to argue my case in English despite nobody ever being able to speak English. The couple quickly went into their home obviously not wanting to deal with the loony foreigner.

I felt a bit bad about having dealt with it so rudely and the next day asked the wife to apologise on my behalf for not having been a bit more polite. The woman explained that they had been frightened because they suspected I was American and may very well have had a gun!!;D

    Ha Ha funny that is!
I like you, went abroad assuming everyone would understand me. I was wroing big time.
I ended up having to explain my expressions, accent and coloquialisms even to English speakers!

Dead right, it's just on my Friday nights I can't stand excessive noise. It's my rest and recovery night and I simply detest when it's interrupted.
Damn this spreading the rep...will rep you later.

Yeah, you have to adapt the language you use a lot in a foreign land. A lot of idiomatic expressions just go over most heads. Heck, even basic greetings go over a lot of heads where I am!!

    Yeah I completely understand that,
In the US I was amazed at the lack of effort they put in tomlistening.
I had to alter my speech pattern just to communicate because they think that only American accents count

My students still get a kick out of me saying water with the strong T sound. I come across as a relatively accentless Brit but I do find the need to moderate the language and accent I use in the classroom. British English just aint in vogue out here.

    Same here.

I've got a mild Irish accent, but once I go abroad, it's sensationalised...
    Oh listen to him talk!

Met quite a few Irish people out here actually. Most I understand quite clearly, not a bother. But there was one guy that just spoke so fast. The sentences just raced out of his mouth so quickly. That, plus a bit of an accent, plus some beer and it was really difficult to follow. Must have been some interesting speaking styles coming from his classroom!!

He must have been from Cork or Kerry.

I hear you Miles. That's why we moved out in the country on almost 15 acres. Nearest neighbors are about 400 yards one way; and the other way is empty for several miles. Only noise out here is me yelling at my dumb dogs when they won't shut up. It's nice to be able to read a book or go for a walk and see no cars for an hour. The silence is deafening Takes a while to get to a store, but worth it living pretty much secluded.

Here's a pic of some of our land. Ahhhhhhh, peace and quiet.

Fucking hell what a depressing and desolate landscape you live in. It looks like it's straight out of a Stephen King novel

I guess it's just as well that weirdo's like you with your thousands of snakes and black widow spiders live out in the middle of nowhere where they can't harm the rest of us.

Anyways get your ass in the starter shack, I'm ready to kick your butt now
