This was an epic enveloped In tragedy. It wrecked both,McClellan much more physically and mentally. The accumulative damage was telling and severe. The craziness with the 20 second count was intense, have seen it a few times with Rahman Vs. Z.Lawrence and Antwon Echols Vs.Brian Barbosa.I have literally lost some very good Friends/fans arguing on this one as Benn was basically cast as a villian...."He head butted,He had a long count,He celebrated rudely on ring post as Gerald layed in ring" etc.etc.Oddly at the time Any defense or pointing out Particular fight points....did feel abit unsettling.Simply...Courageous fighters, great men.

Benn did come across badly especially in the afterfight interview with the UK crew. The Showtime interview wasnt too bad.
But, we have to put it in context. I believe he was having a bad time with Frank Warren at the time and Mclellan was brought over with everyone (including his own promoter) expecting him to get a hiding. It was a brutal fight and Benn was literally fighting for his life in there. So I am prepared to give a little leeway to Benn for his conduct after the fight as it was the ultimate backs to the wall performance.

This is one of those Taboo topics in boxing...everyone likes to avoid it...EVERYONE!!! not just those involved that night....TBH it is because it scares the SHIT!!! out of every fighter manager and promoter in the business...Believe it or not this would have seemed less tragic if there was a death that night....Everyone knows it is just one punch that can put them in the same situation....Even Geralds best friends in the business that he was friends with before the accident avoid him...Roy Jones is the only fighter in the business to ever do anything for him...For a while he donated a portion of his purses to him....Other then that there were a few fundraisers for him because all his money was gone so fast in medical bills...Sad story all around...still breaks my heart to this day....

I seen this when it was on television for the first time and I actually cried because I was a big fan of Geralds...

That was Benn at his peak, he had that head movement, was relaxed, experienced and confident. He was the real deal for that fight, any other version would have lost against the G man. He was never the same after that fight, he had to be helped to get into the bath and pissing blood for a week.
