Just because people pick a guy to beat Calzaghe doesn't make them haters bro', so get off your high horse and relax.
Hopkins doesn't throw as many punches as Pavlik does, and though a better counter puncher and strategist than Pavlik, doesn't bring the fight in your face all night.
Pavlik is slower and more cumbersome, but makes up for it in sheer volume and is constantly attacking. Joe was getting rocked whenever Hopkins did throw that straight right last night; and I think with the sheer volume rate of Pavlik, will eat many more than Hopkins fed him. Joe doesn't have much power and certainly won't knock Pavlik out, though the opposite could be said for Pavlik.
Joe likes taking people to the ropes to beat on them, but news flash, Pavlik will gladly sit around by the ropes to trade with Joe. Though, Taylor showed that if you box Pavlik from the middle of the ring, you could definately make Pavlik look "simple" at times. If Joe does that he could probably win a fairly easy points UD; though I think Joe will do his usual hunting to the ropes and Pavlik will catch up to him at some point. Alot of it depends on Calzaghe's approach.
Congrats to Calzaghe though for his win; I picked Hop to win but am glad I was wrong.

Before last night I'd pick Joe by decision, if he turns up as overconfident and sluggish as last nigh he gets KTFO. And I'm as big a fan of Joe as there is on this board.

But it's a totally different fight, look at Lacy and Kessler when they came to Joe, Joe was more on his game and better able to do what he wanted to do. Hopkins made Joe chase him and it was harder for him to win in a convincing manner.
Kelly knows only one way to fight and honestly he's going to be beaten sooner rather than later the only reason he's a champion is because JT didn't box him good enough and didn't have the stamina to keep him off....I don't forsee Calzaghe having those issues. Sure Kelly has tons of power and is a beast but IMO he's also unpolished in his approach and Joe would take advantage of that.
Kelly will also not have a huge size advantage as well, sure he's taller but Joe will be just as heavy

That would have been exactly my prediction before last night. I know stylistically they're very different, but Calzaghe needs to go back and concentrate on speed only, if he tries to plant his fight without going straight back out again he will be in trouble against Pavlik, and Kelly will keep coming for the full twelve.
Jc needs to be at his ABSOLUTE best, with full concentration, to beat pavlik IMO, I just get the feeling he believes his own hype too much since Kessler, he wasn't sharp at all last night.

Your thinking is exactly the same as mine. I would never have given Pavlik a chance before. Joe just seemed to have lost much as his speed and oomph last night. I can see Bernard negating his punch output, but not his speed and reflexes.
Pavlik is 10 years his Junior and although still green, has the same tenacity that Joe has always shown, but with more pop to his punches.
Joe is a southpaw though and I am still wondering how Pavlik will deal with them. We do know that straight right will be launching regardless.
People need to realize that Joe is approaching the age where his reflexes will slow down. I would not give Pavlik a chance in hell against Joe under normal circumstances. To me though, he is starting to show his age.

That's just B-Hop does to you. It's not so much the speed and reflexes that went, it's more a case of B-Hop making you think twice about throwing a combination. The breaking up of your rhythm, which in turn makes you force your own punches. The speed was still there in the single shots, but it's speedy combinations which are Joe's speciality. Obviously Hopkins experience and style make it very hard to land combinations.....regardless of how good or fast you are.

i thought kessler clocked joe with some big punches and he didn't even blink. everyone probabley writes kes off now - but i think he was (and still is) a great fighter. as for that video someone posted of pav v miranda - surely you aren't comparing calzaghe with miranda?? if so that is one of the dumbest things i ever heard

I'd go with Calzaghe on points. He is always able to find that extra gear & make the adjustments needed
