To be honest I thought BHop came out of this fight better than Calzaghe.

Joe was expected to win, BHop was 43 years old. In the end it was a razor thin win for Calzaghe in a fight in which it really could have gone the other way given a different set of judges.

I thought Calzgaghe would win a relatively comfortable decision but the Nard almost pulled it out.

The ref carried Hopkins through the fight or he would have been stopped. With a fair ref Calzaghe would have won much more clearly than he did.

Whoa! Hopkins getting stopped? Didnt see that. I did see Hopkins cheaply try to get a breather, but getting stopped? lol.

As far as "How big was the win for the UK?" It was big for Joe, regardless of what the fight looked like. As for it being big for the UK, well, it's nowhere near anything Lennox did, but it's still a win over a legend, in his country.

If Lacy would have beat Joe, where would that rate for a U.S fighter? HMM............... Joe deserves credit, good for him.

The ref was protecting Nard as if he was his son. Without that protection Nard wouldve got KTFOd, and you know it.

Well you have to rate this as Calzaghe's biggest victory because, well he went to the states to do it. I'd say it goes like this. Not as legendary as Honneyghan but certainly it ranks up there as one of the greatest on paper even though I agree with those in the thread that think Joe didn't look all to spectacular.

Well, calzaghe does throw some wide hooks that swing in, but they are ussually accurate and on target...i guess theres a tiny possibility that hopkins would clinch and turn him as hes firing a wide hook and hits himself in the chin and ko's himself?

Just messin mate from your typo hehe, dont mean offense, just jokin around

I see that some people said that this fight was robbery , but in my opinion i saw that fight Calzaghe winning , he won clearly , in the first round that was BH did good , after that he looked tire and been holding all the time .I think that we have to admire BH because at his age of 43 years he keep an try making a competitive fights and i like that , but now he have to think that in this Div. he will going face with other more young and going find more problem , i don't know if have to retire , but i see that his prime is going down now.........

joe didn't look good at all.

i would not rate it high as he was meant to overwhelm hopkins and win easy but it ended as a really close fight.

People keep saying this like Calzaghe is 21 or something.

Joe is just as battle worn as B-Hop.

B-Hop's style means that being a 43 year old isn't as much as a factor as a Ricky Hatton still fighting at 43. He's just such an awkward fight for anybody.

If you look at his recent opponents

Taylor twice (very close fights....boring as hell)
Winky (close fight but B-Hop won)
    Tarver (B-Hop embarrassed him)

Going by how well he did against these 3 fighters, age doesn't seem to be that much of a factor. His stye is the biggest factor. He's so cagey, dirty, intelligent, wiley etc...and i was very surprised at the speed of his straight right.

The fight pretty much panned out how i expected it to. Quite a cagey affair. I thought Calzaghe won 115-112 but i'm going to re-watch it and score the fight soberly.

I think both guys come out of this with great credit.

There is a difference though ONO, Calzaghe looked like he was in his absolute prime against Kessler, where as except the Tarver fight, Hopkins hadn't looked good in quite some time.
