    Default Hopkins ruins Calzaghe's pension?!?....

Anyone else spot these quotes from Joe on one of the other websites:

Joe Calzaghe, however, is hoping to lure Hopkins back into the ring. "I'll fight at whichever weight he wants, either at lightheavy or my favoured division, super middleweight. I'll go to America, as well, if that's the only stumbling block, I'll go anywhere at any time....I was devastated that Hopkins bashed Tarver up so badly and won, as I was planning Tarver as my big-pay day, that was my big pension fund. So Hopkins has cost me big-time."

Not sure where the comments are from, as they were under a 'boxing buzz' column, but does Calzaghe have enough pulling power in the states for the super-fight big-buck bonanza that Hopkins suggested could tempt him out of retirement? I don't see it happening myself, but it is certainly an interesting prospect, and could make for a decent fight. Personally I think Calzaghe would tke it, but as I always say, I have an agenda as a massive Calzaghe fan.

No chance, even if Bernard came out of retirement for one last Hurray, Calzaghe would be way down the list, the real Boxing fans would probably say this is the hardest test out there for Nard, but there would not be enough intrest $$ wise to get this fight on.

If Hopkins did i think the only guy and the only money worth it would be RJJ.

It's a bit of a tricky one. I would like to see Hopkins stick to his retirement as he has ended on a high and we have seen what "just one more fight" has done to boxers legacy before. On the other hand I would love to see this fight happen from a selfish fans points of view as i reckon it would be a really good contest. I like both fighters and I reckon Joe still feels he something to prove to a lot of people and I reckon this fight would certainly give him the chance to prove any of his doubters wrong. However there are still big fights out there for Joe but it could be argued that there would be none bigger than Hopkins. Who knows though what will happen - if the money is there you never know!

Understand the dynamic of this one. I think The risk has little reward for Hop, He just wrote a perfect ending to his career...What does he have to gain??Calzaghe has little name recognition in the states(I have a lot of respect for Joe and my eyes were opened up after the Lacy fight I was a huge Calzaghe hater but I RESPECT THE MAN AND GIVE HIM HIS CREDIT)But most casual and recreational Boxing fans are not gonna really know who Joe is,THE FANATICS LIKE US KNOW AND WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE FIGHT..I just dont see it generating enough interest and bringing a big enough gate to get the millions to lure HOP out..

Plus with Joe having little recognition in the States it does little to advance Hop's legacy.A defeat would have the casual fans saying "HE LOST TO THAT GUY FROM THE UK!!!! I THINK HIS NAME IS CALZAGHE" in this case a loss would create more harm than the glory of a win...IMO

things like that happen when you're oft-injured.....Calzaghe is losing money daily with that hand......He says B-HOP cost him alot of money but who's to say he'll ever be able to fight again?? I pray he does because I love watching him fight...and he's a fellow paisan.....
It feels good to be back home.
