Why would we boo someone else's anthem ..... that's a bit of a football fan thing to do. We generally play rugby where the anthems are a war song prior to battle, to be respected by all.

Come to the Millenium Stadium to watch us play rugby, and you will understand. Last time I was there, we all joined in singing the Scottish anthem as well.

Mind, at the fight, we were so stunned at how shit Tom Jones sang our anthem - without any proper words too - that we couldn't think clearly for a while. However, the guy that sang the American anthem was truly genuinely bad ..... was he off Guatemalan Idol or something?

As I had grandparents who fought and put their lives on the line during World War 2, it's abit sad and pathetic to see a couple of brave souls sitting behind their computers slagging these people and what they did off.

    Grow up, guys.

...hey I respect what the English did but to not see it as a group effort in defeating the Axis Powers is sad.

The resistance movements in the Netherlands and France amongst others did a bunch to help win World War II.

I'm sorry if I came across as not respecting what the British did but I'll be damned if I am going to let anyone berate my country and boo my National Anthem, I am sure you understand my frustration.

    A group effort. HA!
Thats what they tell you in the USA to protect your innocence from your countrys cowardly actions.
Resistance helpful! Tell me that once you have all the countries in Europe saying your country is their sworn enemy.

No one has to berate your country, you do that all by your self. And your U.S National anthem represents terrorism against a British friend

Change your national anthem or expect it to be booed by the British.

I'd like to know how our country is cowardly... What the hell is your problem?

    Who are you?

You wake up on the wrong side of your mom's bed this morning?...

If you put your mind to it instead of being blinded by ignorance you'll realise in no time.

    Good day

Much as I love a good row, I thought this thread was originally about the Welsh not booing the American anthem .... how did we suddenly get to the English on this? It is a fairly fine distinction, but Welsh people don't class themselves as 'English', especially on St George's Day

Incidentally, by a strange and vaguely interesting quirk of fate, my grandfather on my mother's side fought for the British/Allies in Europe but my grandfather on my father's side fought with the German Askari troops in East Africa. The side they happened to be on, or the army they were in, does not automatically make them cowards.

Being an ex-soldier myself, I can't help but get a bit defensive when I hear what I assume to be 'civilians' pontificating about the merits of relative combat bravery from the comfort of a computer screen, possibly when the nearest they have been to real conflict is watching Private Ryan' on the television

I must also (shockingly) agree with Lyle, that anyone whose country is being slagged off would probably get angry about it - but you're just fuelling a fire with some of these people, Lyle, I think.

Nice One, Lyle. My post wasn't aimed at anyone specifically just at the under riding tone of the topic regarding WW2.

As you rightly say the Allies effort was a joint one with many different countries involved. My Grandfather in the 53rd Welsh regiment helped liberate towns in Holland that were under occupation.

Also I agree that anyone booing another countries National anthem is showing a lack of respect and it shouldn't be accepted or condoned.
