if you want to get paid you'd fight.. unless you're really smart and can get paid without fighting by suing or something.........

Exactly. That's why no one backs out because of something like this.

Especially if it's a fight where the fighters are getting a % of the PPV sales... a good sucker punch or two at a press conference can mean that more people will be ordering the PPV.

Unless you suffered significant damage no one would let the fans (and their wallet) down.

If I was a boxer and I got punched in the press conference it would depend on a few variables:

    1) Was the punch damaging enough for me to miss the fight?

    2) Did I retaliate and injure the aggressor enough for him to miss the fight?!

I would make the fight If not seriously injured because people would be relying on me, my fans, family, sponsors etc. The pre fight scuffle will only do wonders for the turnout and fight.

The only potential problem is that you as a boxer would take the bust up personally, after all it's only business. The opponents pre fight actions would work if you went crazy at the start of the fight. You'd have to keep your head.

Just a random (and possibly stupid) question after reading this thread:

Has a boxer ever been charged after a press conference? I mean, technically throwing a sucker punch in a press conference surely must qualify as 'assault'. And - this could be funny - has a fight ever been cancelled due to one of the fighters hitting the other fighter pre-figth and then being arrested?

Michael Bennt and Herbie Hide were heavily fined and charged for disturbing the peace after their bust up.

And to answer the question, yes I would continue with the fight, assuming I had not received a cut or significant swelling.

Of course I would, I would want every opp in the world to show the public exactly what kind of guy this is and the only way he can get one up on me is by taking a cheap shot...Not to mention my opp at kicking his rear end and not being penalized for it...

So Im sitting ta work thinking About Razor Ruddock on the brain??I went through the way back machine checking tapes and BOOM.He pulled some cheap shot Stuff in his fight with K.Odum.Found it on U-Tube as well
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeiB-...eature=related

Odum was actually boxing Ruddock and has a nice run at end of 2nd round...after the bell they both drop there hands and look at each other ,Pause...Pause...Leftsmash hook to the head and Odum falls. The crowd went apeshit booing and R.Citro in Kimmuels corner was livid. Its a three part video.Yeh Odum got up but this turned the crowd big time,Before Odum went on to become known best for what he would do most....loss & Get KTFO..mostly

What if you couldn't? You would fake it like Montell Griffith's did against Roy Jones.

It's interesting to consider what possible outcome a fighter could get by suing rather than going through with the fight though.. I mean suppose it caused signifigant(or any) swelling or bruising... Surely you wouldn't be obligated to carry through with fighting if your opponent took a swing at you unprovoked which altered your condition to fight in any way.. If a guy get's cut in sparring he can back out of or at least postpone the fight.. Wouldn't being sucker punched so close to the fight be more grounds to withdraw?

I mean if it happened to me personally, and I felt even remote pain afterwards I'd definetly want to take legal action. There's no reason it should be treated any differently than any assault assuming the opponent deliberately hit you knowing your guard was down. Not to mention you could almost certainly have a percentage of his purse or other financial compensation, and probably just have the fight postponed... Really not sure how it would be resolved though with that regard. The only scenario I could see where I'd want to just shrug it off and fight on anyways, is if it were against an opponent that I truly hated and had no doubts about my winning the fight. I guess that sort of answers the question though, as all fighters probably have that mentality at the top level.

there was one guy who sucker punched a guy after the fight was over

Watched a fight a few years back on ESPN in which that happened. The could have won the fight, but the little scrawny guy ran and jabbed the whole fight, frusterating the guy who should have won so bad, that all he did was follow him around, so the judges gave the fight to the scrawny guy. When they gave the post fight interview, instead of shaking hands, the guy sucker-punched the scrawny guy, and Kod him in front of everyone. Couldn't believe it, no class what-so-ever. Forget who the fighters were. Anyone have a clue? The scrawny guy who won, was an african-american, and after that fight, he started coloring his hair, maybe pink or yellow. Can't remember his name, or the guy who sucker-punched him.

As for the question in the thread, yes i would go ahead with the fight, and I probably would swing back as a reflex.
