Lyle, there are two fighters.

One guy has a truly epic physical presence. He's extremely tall, heavy and athletic, with exceptional athleticism for such a big guy. Yet since he discovered that his jaw is made out of glass he fights in a style that makes John Ruiz entertaining. He managed his career in a way that made Frank Warren seem like a reckless risk-taker and only due to the tragic decline in the heavyweight division since the 1970s is he even seen as world-class.

The other fighter has less height and reach than the first guy and naturally weighs considerably less than the first fighter. But his style of fighting is exciting and he has lots of power married to exceptional athleticism, and he's willing to move up a weight class and fight the best fighter in the world at that level straight away.

Which of these guys is most worth supporting? Which is it most natural to be a fan of?

Or look it at another way. One guy is intelligent, respectful, articulate and an ambassador for the sport of boxing, the other is a complete tool. Which of these guys is most worth supporting? Which is it most natural to be a fan of?

If he's respectful and a great ambassador for boxing but a glass-jawed gunshy bore and the other guy is a tool but actually wants to fight and is exciting when he does fight then I think it's obvious which guy any boxing fan would choose.


Nobody liked Mike Tyson because he was a great ambassador for boxing.

Haye sent most of the crowd to sleep when he plodded to victory against Ismail Abdoul just 5 fights ago. He was booed and jeered out of the ring.

Fragomeni a fat 5 ft 9 plodder almost upset him busting his face open and only Haye's heavy hands managed to save him from once again being upset.

In fact if you back through Haye's career he's been constantly criticised for poor stamina, being lazy, having no chin etc. He was unimpressive against Lasse Johansen, knocked out by Carl Thompson and has looked vulnurable in a number of other fights.

He has looked excellent only in his last three fights demonstrating his impressive KO power.

His fight with Mormeck was superb but he was almost stopped himself.

Not denying that Haye isn't an exciting boxer to watch, and he does have tremendous power but he's yet to do anything at heavyweight at all yet whilst Klitschko is now a two time world champ and has a very clear fight plan to follow, Thompson his mandatory, Povetkin, the winner of the IBF organised tournament to find a mandatory challenger for Wlad and then Sam Peter for a chance to become the first unified champ since Lennox Lewis.

Meanwhile Haye hasn't beaten anybody at heavyweight at all.

Well said, Mr Baggins. To be honest I thought Haye looked a bit silly getting into Wlads face like that. Haye hasnt fought anyone of note at heavyweight and here he is trying to call the shots. I think Haye is interesting to watch but he should just fight a couple of top 10 guys himself and see if he can come through that unscathed before trying to mess with big Wlad.

It may be that Haye is a rubbish heavyweight but the sum total of his fights at heavy till he retires will be far more worth eatching than the boring safety-first contests that Vlad will inflict on us.

I can't believe how boxing fans memories are so short. Truly only remembering the last fight someone had. Wlad's ko percentage is nearly 90% and he has fought many of the top guys. He's not the alltime greatest, but clearly a great fighter and he delivers ko's. He's not risky, but he goes for the ko.

Haye is out of his mind thinking he should go straight from cruiser champ to fighting for heavyweight champ. He just won those titles. It's not like he's a long time champ and has cleaned out the division.

Haye is trying to make a name for himself, that's ok. But he can't seriously expect to go straight for the title with Wlad.

Well I'm far from Wlad's biggest fan but it's unfair to say no one wants the Thompson fight. Actually, maybe no one does want it but that doesn't change the fact that Thompson deserves it. He has paid his dues for a long time and has accomplished a lot more then Haye at heavyweight. I think it's more then fair that Thompson gets his shot. I want to see Haye-Wlad as much as the next guy but Thompson has earned this. Ray Austin didn't but Thompson did.

However Ray Austin DID deserve a shot because he drew with Sultan Ibragimov for the IBF title eliminator so it was either Sultan or Ray and Sultan made the decision to go for the WBO title which was then held by Lyakhovich and later by Shannon Briggs both fighters seemed easier to beat than Wladimir Klitschko however they didn't offer up a bigger payday.

That was Ray Austin's first (and more than likely) LAST title shot and Wlad did what was expected of him.

It's not WLAD's fault that Sam Peter had trouble with Jameel McCline, it's not WLAD's fault Ruslan Chagaev and Nicolay Valuev refuse to fight him.

As for Lamon Brewster being "in no shape to be in the ring" well Wlad basically did the same thing he did in the first fight only he had more stamina this go round and fought a superior technical fight...let's not fool ourselves Lamon took a beating in the first fight vs Wladimir
