Default Hopkins - Calzaghe: Who really won?

I still haven't had the chance to see the fight yet but ive heard it was a tight one. Just thought it would be interesting to everyone's opion on this fight.

BTW i know im a bit late on this one but ive been on holiday!

Oh yeah, if anyone has a link to a vid of the fight, that would be pretty cool

I thought JC won, messy fight Hopkins fouled alot and hugged at every chance Calzaghe didn't complain just went about his work, not his best night by a long shot but still did enough

It was so scrappy i dont even care who won lol.

But it was definatly Joe. Bernard just wanted to make him look bad and he depended on the judges giving it to him. costly mistake.

PErsonally, Calzaghe took it narrowly, but there was a very sma;; case for a draw, and no case whatsoever for calling Hopkins as the winner.

The results of this poll tell the whole story.

Scrappy messy fight that never got going nor was it ever likely too.

I had it 115-112 calzaghe despite the fact after 4 rounds he was 3 down, my good buddy who treats the art of boxing as a religion had it 115-113 calzaghe

Think the majority agree 116-111 was a bit harsh on b-hop, but you cant expect to spend 12 rounds walking backwards and waiting for your opponent to do something then complain afterwards that you were the busier fighter.

Hopefully hopkins has seen the fight since and accepts he was second best on the night!!

    Joe won.

Hopkins had four decent rounds but after that just went to steal rounds by his usual 'get a punch off and try to grab' style.

He even pretended to be hurt by low blows twice to get points taken off Joe once he knew he was losing and just got booed by the crowd and thankfully the judges saw right through him too (well two did).

The decision could have gone either way and i wouldn't have been upset. But you don't need a poll to tell ya who really won, the judges did that already and that's really all that matters.

i thought Hopkins won, Joe may of threw more punches but they seemed so ineffective and he never seemed to be landing anything while hopkins was throwing the hard counters that mostly landed. Hopkins did fight dirty and clinch but Calzaghe didn't exactly fight as clean as people make out.

to be real though at the end of the day there is nothing anyone can do to change the decision now.

iv been following the fight game for years and i like to think i have clear judgement, and for me calzaghe won that fight easily,,

it was not an SD at all,it was a clear UD to calzaghe,iv watched it twice and i was right the first time, joe outpointed him,yes it wasnt a great performance by usual his standards but he got the job done

ledderman, foreman, the two judges etc had it like i did,a UD!

Apart from the odd obliviant hopkin fan or calzaghe hater i think the large majority also accept there was nothing controversial about calzaghe winning the fight when most of us scored it in his favour.

Of course b-hops shots had more of an effect than JC`s, its much easier to hit someone whos coming forward and throwing their own weight about rather than a guy who specialises in cagey defense and just waits for his opponent to over commit before striking with any real intent.

But the facts dont lie, JC threw a hell of a lot more punches, landed loads more than hopkins and was the agressor from round 4 onwards.

As said already to score that fight to hopkins you have to be either incredibly naive or a female judge employed by the nevada state commission!!

Well, I do agree that Calzaghe won and he did throw a hell of a lot more punches and he did seem to just take total control in the last 3rd of the fight, you guys are making it sound like a white wash which it was not... Hop just didn't do enough to win in the later parts of the fight... He did well in the first third, the middle rounds were extremely hard to score and Joe took control of the later rounds...

I don't see how anyone can not score it for Joe... A draw although extemely controvercial I saw as a possibility but I never though it would b scored for Hopkins...

It was not a win by a large margin, though... Don't get it twisted

agreed, but is it actually possible to completely outscore someone with hopkins technique

The guys a top draw fighter nobody can dispute that, but cant help but wonder what could of actually happened had hopkins been more carefree and backed up what he said he was going to do all along!!

In terms of a boxing contest it was a dull fight that 1st round apart offered very little in the way of excitement, i put that down entirely to hopkins!!
