I had no idea who Pacquiao was until I joined this board. Zero.

But I also wasn't much of a fan of the stars of the sport, and more of a fan of the game. Since tho, I have been utubing people when I see them mentioned a lot, and Manny I instantly came to like high on my new list of pro boxers to watch.

He's fast, exciting, hits hard and has charisma.

    just a n00bs humble opinion.

WTF? He's been the Ring #2 p4p fighter for 2 years now. Do you even know Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera, and Juan Manuel Marquez? If you missed their big rivalries then that's too bad.

    No Chance

Don't get confused with the greatest

Mike Tyson is head and shoulders the biggest name boxing has ever seen

Search google for Muhammad Ali 108,000 results

    Mike Tyson 3,390,000

I not saying he should be or thats this is based on boxing abliity, just that his name transcends boxing, not for the best reasons but no one comes near him

uhh, dude. I am 13 years old. Been spending my boxing time in a gym working out, fighting, learning the sport from that point of view. This is all new to me. And no, I didn't know who any of those people were either, but I am learning about them.

The only boxers I really knew were people like Ali and those old time legends, ODLH, Sugar Ray, Mayweather, stuff like that.

Just telling it like it is...

I am not refering to popularity I am talking about and I think this thread is about the most recognised name in boxing, by both boxing fans and non boxing fans alike

Stop random people in the street and more will have heard of Mike than Ali

Ali is the big Kahuna to boxing fans but Tyson is the biggest name

I may have over exxagerated with the p4p ranking there. Ring mag put Pac up in #2 after he KOed Morales for the second time. But it's really hard for someone not to know Pac if he heard of Morales, Barrera, and Marquez before.

This kind of thread is a natural magnet for that kind of response. I'll give a medal of courage to Saddoboxer for starting this nice mess.
Once in awhile, get outside in fresh air, take a deep breath & with a deep sigh, let out all the things that's bottled up inside you & be free, & you'll get a glimpse of nirvana.

I am sure in the Phillipines and anyone worldwide that follows boxing even casually or occasionally would know him, I haven't met that many people that know who he is. Where I live though boxing is not very popular anymore.

I do however find it funny that someone would write an article that says basically "PAC is popular" not exactly investigative journalism, kinda one of those things that goes without saying if it's true.
A-Rod is only commonly spoken in my area when it comes to beastiality and Jeter man love

    Ali - 3,770,000

    Tyson - 3,450,000

Ali was the first ever name I recall hearing about boxing. And also as I heard other names, like Tyson and other widely known names...Ali's name almost always seemed to come up as a point of reference.

"What do you think of Delahoya?"

"He's fast and all, but if he was in the ring with Ali..."

    or

    "Tyson is a beast!"

"Yea, but if he fought in Al's time, Ali would kick his..."

Always seemed to be like that as I remember it,in passing.

Popular names usually last a short amount of time...

EG- Naseem Hamed was a name that everyone was talking about in the early 2000's and late 90's.....

Alexis Arguello is a name that people still talk about on a regular basis...

    Making him a bigger name

I'm not a fan of baseball, but I am definately aware of the rivalry you guys have up there. While you may speak ill of A-rod, you still speak of him though. $28,000,000 a year is more than me and all 500 of my cousins make combined!!
