You're not really going to need a right hook for anything unless you have a guy hurt, against the ropes, or you want to throw a bomb on the break.

I'd take a solid jab over any punch out there, you can win on the jab alone and it doesn't have to be all that powerful.

thats good to know... cuz a month ago with i started boxing i noticed i favor my jab and left hook... i know i need to work on my cross, but i hae been trying to get my right hook up to, guess i dont have to worry about it. my left hook and jab rattle my whole garage when i hit the bag though . im sure its no were near you guys as far as speed in my combos but eventuly it will be.

...it's a fun punch to land ...no doubt but the right hook is not often used. You're better off working on the uppercut which is also a difficult punche to land

Shifting weight in behind the movment can even be done many ways:
with the rear heel comming up slightly or both feet moving into postion at the time of the landing, (a slight body lean ! but its not recomended at all ;unless your going over the top outside of someones lead arm so you are safe for that second), or by a very slight hip flex as you shift sit on the punch. A bit of all (except the lean) is effective and explosive.
Vertical fist and horizontal fist have differing effects on all of the movments too, one creates a more upright alighnment of the head but only slightly maybe a 1/2 inch. Vertical fist or angled fist so your elbow is down : if in the opposite stance to your opponent.. his left jab countered by your right jab vertical over the top of it withthe above footwork also gets you out of the way of his and puts more power into yours as well as deflecting his.

    I can explain it.
