I'd much rather see Calzaghe face Dawson than both Jones & Pavlik. IMO Dawson is most deserving of a shot at the 175 pound championship & Pavlik still has business to take care of at 160 with guys like Wright & Abraham in awaiting.

But I think Calzaghe will take Jones & Pavlik will move onto Rubio. From there who knows... maybe Dawson can clean up Tarver impressively & present an attractive option for Calzaghe

Calzaghe: Pavlik would be a great matchup. I really hope Joe decides to fight him. The ultimate way to close a career, rather than toying with an old Jones Jr.

I agree, but I think it's more a case of if Pavlik wants to fight Joe - not Joe wanting Pavlik.

Calzaghe has said in the past that RJJ does nothing to enhance his legacy - Pavlik however, would.

The big stumbling block for Pavlik Vs Calzaghe for me is Arum. Will he risk Kelly at 168lb against the best SMW on the planet at this stage of his career?

Really. Just like he over powered and totally hurt Hopkins and beat him. Calzaghe fights like a kitten.

Calzaghe might box the ears of Pavlik, but he won't beat the stuffing out of him. Calzaghe can't hurt Pavlik. Hell, I'm not sure he could hurt me. I love watching him fight and I consider myself a fan, but the one thing he can't do is crack. Hopkins was right about one thing, Calzaghe might have hit him with more punches than he's ever been hit with, but Hopkins face looked like he had been out for a jog rather than a prizefight.

Call me stupid, but Pavlik was supposed to lose his last three fights according to the majority who considers themselves "in the know". I don't think he is a pushover for anyone. Joe better not get sloppy like he did with Bernard, because Pavlik will make him pay a much heavier price if he does.

Very well said. Calzaghe may give a boxing clinic on Pavlik, but he won't destroy him and to me looking at Calzaghe's legacy he has never really DESTROYED a great fighter, or even stopped or knocked out one. All his best wins have been UD's. He just finds a way win. To me Calzaghe is a bit like what Larry Holmes was in the 80's, yeah he was good and he kept winning, but there is something in the back of your mind saying "Is he really that good ?" as to me he is not as good was what came before (Jones, Toney, Benn, McClellan) and maybe the way Tyson put Holmes firmly in his place, Pavlik can do the same to Calzaghe.

Calzaghe takes a UD for me in this.I see this fight been very similar to the Kessler fight,Pavlik has a good solid jab and a straight right much like Kessler.Calzaghe will be to good a boxer for him.I wouldnt be surprised if he fights Jones then finish his career of with Pavlik.

I like where your head is at! I think Pavlik needs to call out Calzaghe in order to get anything going. Joe did once say Roy Jones would do nothing for his legacy but look who he called out after he beat Hopkins! I don't think Joe will ever call out Pavlik. Pavlik will have to insult Joe's manhood and call him out.

Calzaghe can tap Pavlik all he wants, but Pavlik throws bombs.

Who's to say Pavlik does not knock him the phuck out. Hopkins hurt him several times and knocked him out. I don't think Calzaghe or any one can stand in a trade. His range is great. He has great balance. He has a world class chin. He can bust you up inside. He has great stamina. He is a complete boxer / fighter. And thats all said without even mentioning he is probably the hardest puncher pound for pound. He hits harder than the hardest hitting super middle weight (Miranda) and maybe even harder than most of the light heavy weight division. You people did not give him a chance with Miranda. Palvik destroyed him. You did not give him a chance with Taylor. He destroyed him as well and beat him again. Taylor beat Hopkins twice years ago when Hopkins was alot better boxer.

I don't look at Pavlik as a huge one punch puncher, but more of a heavy handed relentless puncher like Cotto. I think Miranda hits harder with his hardest punch, but Pavlik throws everything hard and painful and just overwhelms guys.

Thanks for the compliment, and I agree with most of the post, but I think you are off the the Holmes comparision. First, Tyson didn't put Holmes firmly in his place. Tyson beat completely past it Holmes. Holmes suffered in reputation because he followed in the footsteps of Ali and he was followed by Tyson. He didn't have the personality or charisma of either, and he didn't have the right opponent in his time to make a epic trilogy with. It's too bad Tyson didn't come along a little earlier. One of my top 5 fantasy fights is Prime Holmes against Prime Tyson. Some people have that in the back of their mind with Holmes, sure, but I think those people are wrong, and in my book, many people overrate Tyson considerably.

Also, I think it's generally recognized that Jones, in his short stay at SWM was better than Joe. I have no doubt that Joe is better than Benn or McClellen. Toney, I'm not sure, but in comparing Joe to Jones and Toney, you are judging him against two ATG's.

i thought the exact same thing before i saw him johnson, jurys out on dawson now. I suspect he wouldnt be able to go to war with calzaghe who would exploit an unproven chin and ala lacy prove to have too much experience for him.

Pavlik is entirely a different kettle of fish. The guy is proven at 160 and what with his punching power, reach advantage etc could be just as dominant at 168.

I suspect team calzaghe will opt for the easier bigger payday and fight jones jr in cardiff in november, if however joe is serious about going out at the very top pavlik next year in the states HAS to happen!!
