All his best wins have been UD's. He just finds a way win. To me Calzaghe is a bit like what Larry Holmes was in the 80's, yeah he was good and he kept winning, but there is something in the back of your mind saying "Is he really that good ?" as to me he is not as good was what came before (Jones, Toney, Benn, McClellan) and maybe the way Tyson put Holmes firmly in his place, Pavlik can do the same to Calzaghe.
Who's to say Pavlik does not knock him the phuck out. Hopkins hurt him several times and knocked him out. I don't think Calzaghe or any one can stand in a trade. His range is great. He has great balance. He has a world class chin. He can bust you up inside. He has great stamina. He is a complete boxer / fighter. And thats all said without even mentioning he is probably the hardest puncher pound for pound. He hits harder than the hardest hitting super middle weight (Miranda) and maybe even harder than most of the light heavy weight division. You people did not give him a chance with Miranda. Palvik destroyed him. You did not give him a chance with Taylor. He destroyed him as well and beat him again. Taylor beat Hopkins twice years ago when Hopkins was alot better boxer.
I don't look at Pavlik as a huge one punch puncher, but more of a heavy handed relentless puncher like Cotto. I think Miranda hits harder with his hardest punch, but Pavlik throws everything hard and painful and just overwhelms guys.
That also proves that Pavlik's chin is great. He took allot of flush over hand rights from Miranda and didn't really budge. Most likely. I can go with that
look at :54 the short left hook. He is very punishing.

I first saw him fight against Branco McKart...

I remember watching the first Taylor fight and being like, "Damn, this kid's doing good(Kelly)." Then he sticks his chin out and get knocked down by that brutal birage...

I was thinking that no one would be able to survive that round with that much time left... The chin is great if it stays tucked in but it can take heavy hands... Pantera knows...

When he slumped taylor into that corner I think I woke everyone on my street up, my girlfriend and anyone else within earshot...

I swear... What a fight... What a middleweight champ

    I'm a huge Pavlik fan!!!!

So in response to whether Joe could beat Kelly or not?...

My first instinct is to say yes... And I think I have in another thread due to Calslappy's workrate...

Kelly's workrate is also very high and please someone correct me if I'm wrong but I dont think Calzaghe has ever been in with such a puncher...

It would be a pick'em for me as Pavlik would check that chin... He'd check that chin good

Pavlik would be Calzaghe's most dangerous opponent, plus the end to his unbeaten streak. I agree that Joe is a great fighter but I don't think he should be in the same ring with Pavlik and his bad intentions, it's no healthy. (That should be Kelly's new nickname because it would work so well with his gameplan + he already beat Taylor twice so the nickname can be passed on)

I really don't see this fight happening at all, Calzaghe's been winding down the frequency of his fights, and as far as I can see won't be fighting at SMW again, so unless Pavlik comes up to light heavy, or some sort of catchweight, I don't see it as a probability, although not completely impossible.

5 or 6 years ago Calzaghe was struggling to make SMW, so to have done it for so long is a tribute to his hard work, but as it will be near to a year since he's been SMW weight the next time he fights, I don't think he'll take a fight there, and it would be a particularly ignominious ending for him to lose his titles on the scales in his last fight.

If they do get in the ring, I'd probably pick Pavlik the favourite, he's younger, punches with bricks in his gloves and isn't afraid of putting the shifts in, even if he's never really had to do it over 12 hard rounds. Pavlik for a hard-fought SD if it ever happens.
