Just out of curiousity has anyone seen either fighter fighting going backwards?
They both are come forward fighters, I think given Joe's jump in style and Pavlik's plow forward style we can all agree a bad clash of the heads is likely.

I voted no, but it's a fight I could see going either way. Calzaghe's movement and workrate would probably give Pavlik problems, but then again, Pavlik's right hand would most likely be a danger to Joe all night long.
I'd like to see it...but I'd still like to see Joe and RJJ go at it first, just for the hell of it.
I think closely along your lines. Only difference is i don't see Joe's workrate being a problem with Pavlik. Pav seems to enjoy taking shots to the face
I see Lateral Movement and a southpaw stance giving Pavlik issues. He has somewhat shaky foot movement and it could spell trouble. I am basing my observations on what he has faced so far in opponents. He may actually have an answer for it though and prove me wrong.
reid barely won 1 round against calzaghe. I was hard pressed to give reid anything.
Pavlik gets schooled or KO'd late. Hopkins wasnt there to be hit, Pavlik will be.
Joe C too good for him.
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough

I'd like to see this fight. I voted for Pavlik. Mainly due to age. But it would depend on what weight they fought at for me.
“If you even dream of beating me you'd better wake up and apologize.” Muhammad Ali.
Calzaghe fights best going backwards. I agree with the other post which states if Calzaghe squares up and starts slapping his in for a rude awakening.
He was going backwards against Lacy most of the time, and when he wasn't he didn't have to chase it and lean too far forward. The right hands JC has problems with are the counters (Hopkins, Reid, Kessler), if you notice Kessler isn't actually able to catch Joe with a significant right hand when coming forward during the fight, only when he forced JC to lead.
If this old version of JC tries to square up with Pavlik he'll get KO 'd IMO, but if he can be patient and make Pavlik miss the right hands while countering he should be able to claim the win. Of course there's also the possibility that Pavlik will adjust his strategy as well.
Kelly is a fantastic puncher and not a bad boxer.
However, he moves rather slowly and deliberately.
Calzaghe even at 36 is slick and fast. Although I allow Kelly a legitiamte chance at knocking out any fighter, I feel his chances are greatly reduced against Joe Calzaghe.
Pavlik is a fighter perpetually on the assault, relentless in his pursuit.
However, Calzaghe's best moments are produced when on the counter and reacting to his opponents pressure.
When analysing Kelly, one note's him as a texctbook, somewaht plain fighter.
The dressing on his sandwich, is of course the mustard on his punches.
However, ultimately he is a fighter who generally throws long punches with power seeking the big one (relentlessly.)
Calzaghe is a fighter who has spent his career at a higher weight than Kelly, he's accustomed to hard hitters and loves pressure fighters.
The more I c9onsider this match up, the more I see Calzaghe drawing out a UD. Very similar to The Kessler fight.

We saw Taylor out box Kelly for a few rounds in there rematch and even made Pavlik get fustrated cause he couldnt land.Calzaghe will out box Pavlik for most of the fight and take a UD.Same old story with Joe he will land alot of punches cause Pavlik will come to fight but he will not get a stoppage.
