Pavlik gets schooled or KO'd late. Hopkins wasnt there to be hit, Pavlik will be.

Joe C too good for him.

Calzaghe fights best going backwards. I agree with the other post which states if Calzaghe squares up and starts slapping his in for a rude awakening.

He was going backwards against Lacy most of the time, and when he wasn't he didn't have to chase it and lean too far forward. The right hands JC has problems with are the counters (Hopkins, Reid, Kessler), if you notice Kessler isn't actually able to catch Joe with a significant right hand when coming forward during the fight, only when he forced JC to lead.

If this old version of JC tries to square up with Pavlik he'll get KO 'd IMO, but if he can be patient and make Pavlik miss the right hands while countering he should be able to claim the win. Of course there's also the possibility that Pavlik will adjust his strategy as well.

Kelly is a fantastic puncher and not a bad boxer.

However, he moves rather slowly and deliberately.

Calzaghe even at 36 is slick and fast. Although I allow Kelly a legitiamte chance at knocking out any fighter, I feel his chances are greatly reduced against Joe Calzaghe.

Pavlik is a fighter perpetually on the assault, relentless in his pursuit.
However, Calzaghe's best moments are produced when on the counter and reacting to his opponents pressure.
When analysing Kelly, one note's him as a texctbook, somewaht plain fighter.
The dressing on his sandwich, is of course the mustard on his punches.
However, ultimately he is a fighter who generally throws long punches with power seeking the big one (relentlessly.)

Calzaghe is a fighter who has spent his career at a higher weight than Kelly, he's accustomed to hard hitters and loves pressure fighters.
The more I c9onsider this match up, the more I see Calzaghe drawing out a UD. Very similar to The Kessler fight.

We saw Taylor out box Kelly for a few rounds in there rematch and even made Pavlik get fustrated cause he couldnt land.Calzaghe will out box Pavlik for most of the fight and take a UD.Same old story with Joe he will land alot of punches cause Pavlik will come to fight but he will not get a stoppage.

I'd like to see this fight. I voted for Pavlik. Mainly due to age. But it would depend on what weight they fought at for me.

firstly i will admit im a huge calzaghe fan - hell the first boxing event i went to was "the full monty" in sheffield where he took the title off eubank (ill admit i was there to watch naz but left as a fan of joe) i was there when he beat lacy and kessler too. It just seems that every single opponent joe's had people are lining up to write him off. I honestly don't believe any of the touted fighters (jones jr, tarver, pavlik) are going to beat him - he just is that good. look at the punches he took off kessler and didn't even blink. True hopkins might have knocked hm down - but it didn't seem to bother him that much!

If it happened I'd say 90% chance it's going to be at supermiddle.

I would deinatly go with Joe via UD, we know he's a sucker for a right hand and all but pavlik has nowhere near the IQ of B-Hop or the movement to make Joe jump into those right hands like he did.

B-Hop is just so hard to hit, if you do catch him he is already moving away from the punch or has managed to partially block the shot wich is probably why Joes shots looked so feeble and ineffective.
Wev'e heard it must be about 30 odd times "he slaps, but he slaps hard" I dont think pavlik will just walk through the shots he likes a tear up but he aint superman, you dont just ignore it do you, if you get punched in the face cleanly your gonna feel it.

I think work rate will do it for Joe at the end of this one, hell ship a few big ones but i think he has the chin to stand up to it. B-Hops shot rattled him cos he didn't see it coming......the ones that hurt the most are the ones you dont see coming...I can't see pavlik with that sort of smarts Joe will see every shot,no KO.

I would have to see a bit more of Pavlik before I can make a desicion like this... He beat Miranda, and JT 2x which most didnt regard him all that high at the end. Kelly personifies all that is good about boxing.(power, chin, personality, excitement, outstanding sportsman)

JC as we know has proven himself to all the critics, especially me FORMALLY one of his biggest. 2nd best supermiddle of all time undefeated and over 10 year reigning champion along with being Lineal and universally recognized Champion of 2 divisions... His plaque and space have already been set aside in Canastota.... Enough said

If Kelly beats him its only because Joe got old and less mobile... But Kelly's Helacious right is his meal ticket and Joe's achilles heal. The question is can Calzaghe keep showing angles so Kelly cant set and sit on his punches.

I think Calzaghe: Pavlik is a great matchup. I think Calzaghe, if he can find that Kessler form one more time, can beat Pavlik by a clear UD. But Pavlik will always make it interesting with his workrate and huge right hand.

Nothing not to like in this possible matchup...

If kelly lands even a quarter of the shots bernard did, the fight wouldn't last very long. I don't see a way joe could keep from getting hit. Pavlik will walk right through those little bursts of taps that seem to bother and frustrate other fighters. Bernard did as much to not get hit as he did to hit joe. Pavlik wont. I love calzaghe and maybe a couple of years back i'd see it a little different and there are some great arguments as to why joe would win. I just imagine what will go through joe's head after feeling a couple of hard punches from kelly, even the ones that get blocked. Kelly isn't the greatest boxer in the world but he sets up big punches really well which makes up for any lack of actual boxing skill. Just my opinion, a lot of my friends say i'm crazy.
