In his early exploits Cotto was a rugged gunslinger with his heart on his sleeve and his chin on the line.
However, he has evolved. Although retaining his ferocious power and body punching, Cotto has adapted his style, in a manner that protects his chin, decreases wear and tear on his body and allows him to win fights without expending himself as much as he used to.
Much like Marco Antonio Barrera before him, Cotto will ensure his longevity by relying more on boxing skill in the later stages of his career, allowing him a longer reign as one of boxing's most entertaing fighters.
