Pathetic or not...well that's a matter of opinion.

Joe's an undefeated fighter who's broken records & has made future stars lose their lustre.

Roy's actually done a hell of a lot on the comeback trail...especially considering what he went through with his knockout losses.

    Some pretty harsh statements there.

Sort of same thing happened with Kessler-Andrade, where Palle's good friend (former boxer) Hans Henrik Palm suddenly won the purse offer, having never staged a show before or after. This way they were free to offer it as ppv, despite Palle's stable being contractually bound to a (free, third rate) tv-channel.
I think this is right. Setanta is a nice deal for Warren, not Joe. Hatton made a bundle from Sky ppv for his last two fights and Joe wants some of that too. I'm still not convinced the Jones fight is going to be ppv in the US because they originally said the same thing about the Hopkins fight, but there's a nice big ppv revenue stream there in the UK to be had for certain. IIRC Hatton got to keep 100% of the Sky money from the Mayweather fight too.
I'm a big joe fan, but there's no way I'm PPViewing a jonesJr fight, I'm sure a lot of fans think the same.
A lot more won't though. I hope he makes a bundle from doing it, he deserves it. And you'll probably end up buying it too. When's the next time you're going to see a Welshman in a huge Vegas event rounding off his unbeaten career?

    Default Calzaghe split with Warren?

It says on fightnews that Calzaghe has split with Warren. He claims he is a free agent and is only interested in fighting Jones, not Pavlik.

Seems a very strange move at this stage in his career, 36 years old with one maybe two fights left. Why not 5 years ago? Maybe he will have more than 1 or 2 more fights?

Anyone got more detailed news on this?

I am sort of dissapointed in this news. Another p4p great ducks a young Top Rank fighter.

But I don't blame Calzlappy, I would not fight Kelly Pavlik either

    I can still say DUCK!

Exactly. This is a fight between the two best SMW's of all time, billed as a farewell fight for Calzaghe. Competitive or not, it surely is huge.

In regard to my previous comment, I wouldn't be surprised to see Warren somehow on the Calzaghe payroll (manager or even better 'consultant') or to find out the split were on very amiable terms. They could be looking at a much larger pot to split this way, wherefore in terms of actual money this might not be so bad even for Warren.

I'm not against the fight, but I'm already forking out for fucking setanta, bollocks to ppv. I've held fast since Hatton went ppv (only paid for the Mayweather/ Tzyu fights) I'm just set against it since it's been ruining boxing for the past 15 years.

Im in agreement with PPV. People pay plenty for their cable/satellite subscription fees, I wouldnt dream of paying for PPV. There is a difference in boxers/promoters making a good living, and pure greed.

perhaps Warren fancied the Pavlik fight so Joe ran as far and as fast as he could.

Warren is already saying that Calzaghe is going to get "eaten alive" by Don King when it comes to negotiating the fight contract. I think Joe will just hire Ricky Hatton's lawyer to do it for him.
